I'm going to single out a comment made by John Leeke largely because it was the first comment that I saw and I strongly disagree with it. First of all, I went to the posted link on Gehry's Stata Center at MIT, and I would like to point out that Gehry isn't the only architect to have this problem. Many structures by Frank Lloyd Wright, who is accepted as one of the greatest architects of all time if not the greatest, leak because of a his favored flat roof that are on many of his Prairie Style homes. NOBODY IS COMPLAINING ABOUT THAT!!!! The only reason Gehry is being singled out is because he is a Deconstructivist and his work is so far from mainstream and Neoclassical architecture. Before you bash the guy, you should really ask yourself why something can't serve a dual purpose of building and art. Maybe the function of his building is to be art. If you haven't noticed, many art galleries designed by famous architects look similar to a large piece of modern sculpture, which I assure you is very intentional.

Ok where do you guys get off talking down about all these architects? I don't wanna sound like an old man but if you think you can do better than go for it. They have their jobs for a reason. They're good at it. As for poor designs the client is always involved and more responsible for an ugly building than the designer. They say I want I want I want. As for the problems with the buildings(leaks), that fault is placed soley on the construction company. They make all the f*#: ups. They just go after the architect cause they make the highest profit.

"Form (ever) follows function" is Louis Sullivan's line. That from a guy who did not shy away from decorating his building's surfaces. Sullivan did strive for forms that in the mindset of his day spoke to the use and purpose of the building - Carson Pirie Scott store and the Auditorium Theater. He may not have pushed the boundaries as hard as Gehry but he inspired folks.Mies van der Rohe found beauty in the simplicity of structure and materials and understood the power of space. He occasionally nailed it. The Farnsworth House is a good example of this. To blame ugly modern architecture on Mies is like blaming Bob Marley for bad raggae music. The great leaders make it look easy and the lame followers make it look/sound bad. Gehry makes some interesting forms and spaces but apparently not durable buildings.

I'm just doing some art & design courses at the moment and just came across this casually but I have to say it's HILARIOUS! Just by looking at them you can tell they'd be hard to maintain and look like they wouldn't stand up but THAT'S WHAT MAKES IT FUNNY! I credit this man for having a great sense of humor as these buildings look like they were warped by a nuclear blast or a spaceship crashed there!
