The Mushroom house is the terminus of a walk I take about 1/2 doze times a year. The residence was built when laws prohibiting construction on public beaches were not yet enacted. It was built for then potato chip magnate Sam Bell, whose home was at the top of the bluffs but was later torn down. The original structure did not have the surrounding wall as shown in the photos. They were added later because of attempted break-ins. I have never seen the structure or inclined elevator in use.
