"rat" is for... rat. This guy had a huge influence on graffiti in France (Miss Tic, for instance) and maybe elswhere, but he himself has been inspired by another artist, <a href="http://www.pignon-ernest.com/" rel="nofollow">Ernest Pignon Ernest</a> who is quite a contemporary art institution now.
