9-11: 9 Years Later and Looking Back [124 Photos]

Nine years have passed since the attacks on September 11, 2001, when hijackers crashed two airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. Both buildings collapsed within two hours, destroying nearby buildings and damaging others. 2,752 people were killed, including nationals of over 70 countries. In total, seven World Trade Center buildings were destroyed. Some would say it was just another day in a world with suicide bombers – others would argue that life in the USA changed after the 9/11 attacks. For better or worse, the United States launched the War on Terror and enacted the USA PATRIOT Act. Here are 128 photos that look back the events and people surrounding the World Trade Center and “Ground Zero” immediately after the 9/11 attack. This is a snapshot, and perhaps a tribute to those who died and those who worked so hard to find survivors.
