<p>Fun workspace features like slides and outlandishly creative office design schemes get a lot of attention, but ultimately, the individual workspaces where employees carry out most of their daily tasks are more germane to both happiness and productivity. Should they be private, or prioritize openness and collaboration? Should they be serious, or a little quirky and fun? These 12 modern workspaces show how various companies and designers have answered those questions, and most of the time, the solutions are somewhere in between &#8211; with a heavy emphasis on <em>adaptability</em> and <em>choice.</em></p>
<h4>Treehouse 2 by Dymitr Malcew</h4>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-113891" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Screen-Shot-2018-05-16-at-9.19.19-AM.png" alt="" width="888" height="602" /></p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-113892" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Screen-Shot-2018-05-16-at-9.19.05-AM.png" alt="" width="886" height="563" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-113893" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Screen-Shot-2018-05-16-at-9.18.56-AM.png" alt="" width="883" height="592" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-113875" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Malcew-Modular-Meeting-Pods.jpg" alt="" width="668" height="445" /></p>
<p>Contained within your own little acoustically insulated pod, you could stretch out and get comfortable, have a phone conversation, huddle together with another employee, wheel yourself into a private corner of the office or come together with multiple other units to form a little ‘village.’ The ‘Treehouse’ and ‘Treehouse 2’ structures by architect<a href="http://malcew.com/Tree-House-2"> Dymitr Malcew</a> are somewhere in between architecture and furniture, finding middle ground between fully enclosed offices and the kind of open-plan spaces that workers tend to find distracting and uncomfortable.</p>
<h4>Snaking Interactive Desk by Teamlab for Pixiv</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-113856" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Teamlab-Pixiv-3.png" alt="" width="861" height="566" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-113855" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Teamlab-Pixiv-2.png" alt="" width="946" height="554" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-113854" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Teamlab-Pixiv.png" alt="" width="944" height="534" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-113883" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/teamlab-desk.jpg" alt="" width="1024" height="682" /></p>
<p>A single desk snakes around a vividly colored office space for a full 820 feet, providing all sorts of nooks and crannies for workers to choose from. Designed by <a href="https://www.teamlab.art/?submit=pixiv">Teamlab</a> for Pixiv, a Japanese online community for artists, the wooden table is a single continuous loop with a ‘bridge’ you walk under to get inside. Cutouts in the surface make way for cables and chargers as well as a few semi-enclosed working areas.</p>
<h4>Zones by Pearsonlloyd</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-113878" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Zones-by-PearsonLloyd.jpg" alt="" width="1486" height="1000" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-113877" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Zones-by-PearsonLloyd-2.jpg" alt="" width="1486" height="1000" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-113876" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Zones-by-PearsonLloyd-3.jpg" alt="" width="1486" height="1000" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-113864" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Zones-Focus-Pod.jpg" alt="" width="1280" height="854" /></p>
<p>From intensive individual work sessions to collaborations to meetings to phone calls, an office should have a variety of ‘zones’ offering comfortable spaces for various functions. The ‘Zones’ collection by London-based designers <a href="http://pearsonlloyd.com/zones/">PearsonLloyd,</a> created for Teknion, takes all of these needs into account.</p>
<p>“Zones includes a variety of furniture components that can be combined with other to create an all-inclusive office furniture solution,” say the designers. “The collection is shaped around the idea of Informal Productivity &#8211; an alternative to the traditional office, designed to give users choice and to create work environments that encourage collaborative and private settings… the emotional, humanistic aspect is fundamental to Zones as the collection supports modern office tasks in a manner that recognizes the human craving for familiarity, warmth, comfort and empowerment.”</p>
<h4>Suspended Workspace by Studio Frank Havermans</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-113859" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Suspended-Workspace-Havermans.png" alt="" width="894" height="591" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-113858" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Suspended-Workspace-Havermans-2.png" alt="" width="805" height="631" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-113857" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Suspended-Workspace-Havermans-3.png" alt="" width="811" height="520" /></p>
<p>It may look like a carnival ride, but this hovering contraption by <a href="http://frankhavermans.nl/studio/item/kapkar-ws1p-an">Studio Frank Havermans</a> is actually a desk designed for the head office at Akzonobel, a paint and coating company in Amsterdam. The designers took the color scheme from the new McLaren F1 car MCL33. It’s unclear whether the desk, which was created as part of an exhibition called ‘Common Ground,’ will be in regular use by people in the office, but it’s probably a lot more fun than the average workspace in the building.</p>

    <p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108971" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/zipper-typology-644x213.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="213" /></p>
<p>Designers are always trying to reinvent the chair or improve the shoe, but zippers have stayed largely the same for a long time, which begs the question: is there room to innovate on this simple fastener?</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108966" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/triangle-zip-644x430.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p><a href="https://weburbanist.com/?s=nendo">Nendo</a> has designed a series of alternatives titled Zippppper for manufacturer YKK. Their work challenges the notion that a traditional set of interlocking teeth is all zippers have to offer a piece of apparel or other material product.</p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/Lpjcz8gVfkM?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>The team wanted to do more than change the color, size or handle. &#8220;In lieu of focusing on superficial finishings or decorations, it was important to take a step back and delve into the fundamental question, &#8216;what exactly is a zipper?'&#8221;</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108968" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/flap-zip-644x430.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p>They are made to close gaps and open easily, but beyond that there are a lot of possibilities. Their solutions include: (1) a three-way zipper that could be used for things like interior tent partitions, (2) a version with a gap to let through headphones or cords, (3) a one-handed variant with a rotating easy-grip clip, (4) a right-angled set of intersecting zippers and (5) a self-connected loop (purpose unknown).</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108967" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/bag-zip-644x430.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108969" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/cross-zip-644x430.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108965" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/zipper-concepts-644x430.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p>&#8220;The basic concept of a zipper is to open and close the opening between two pieces of material without any gaps,&#8221; explain the designers, &#8220;but by thoroughly assessing each component individually and through further reassessment – five new zippers were created.&#8221; Really, though: any zipper that doesn&#8217;t stick would be an improvement.</p>

<p>When you’re lazy, even the most intuitive transforming furniture isn’t easy enough to operate unless it’s on the same level as clapping your lights on and off. Luckily for those of us who fall into this category, some furniture makers are creating multifunctional designs for small spaces that work their magic at the push of a button, the pull of a string, a flick of the wrist or even a mere gesture.</p>
<h4>Retractible Ollie Chair by RockPaperRobot</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-102066" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/ollie-chair-gif-644x436.gif" alt="ollie chair gif" width="644" height="436" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-102065" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/ollie-chair-flat-pack-644x427.jpg" alt="ollie chair flat pack" width="644" height="427" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-102064" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/ollie-chair-644x429.jpg" alt="ollie chair" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-102063" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/ollie-chair--644x637.jpg" alt="ollie chair" width="644" height="637" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/n8M0F_Gk0KY?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>You really have to watch the video of how <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/144629748/the-ollie-chair-shape-shifting-seating">this chair</a> works to fully appreciate its brilliant simplicity. It starts as an entirely flat panel of slatted teak wood with a slight curve at the top. Pick it up, pull a string and the whole thing unfurls into a seat in a single fluid motion that’s very satisfying to watch, and it works the same way in reverse. The slats are affixed to a textile canvas to make the seating flexible, and the rest takes folding inspiration from origami.</p>
<h4>A-Board Flat-Pack Shelf</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-102059" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/a-board-644x430.jpg" alt="a-board" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-102058" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/a-board-2-644x430.jpg" alt="a-board 2" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p>This bookshelf starts as a flat piece of laser-cut plywood. Yang the orange ribbon on the back, and it will pull the shelves down perpendicular to the face so you can rest the whole thing against a wall and use it as a bookshelf. Designer <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tomas-schons-flat-pak-‘a-board’-becomes-a-full-shelf-with-the-pull-of-a-string/">Tomas Schön</a> used a laser-cutting technique to bend the wood instead of hinges, and there’s no other hardware or even glue involved.</p>
<h4>MIT Media Lab CityHome</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-102053" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/MIT-cityhome-644x350.gif" alt="MIT cityhome" width="644" height="350" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-102052" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/MIT-cityhome-2-644x417.jpg" alt="MIT cityhome 2" width="644" height="417" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-102051" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/MIT-cityhome-3-644x372.jpg" alt="MIT cityhome 3" width="644" height="372" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/f8giE7i7CAE?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>Still not easy enough for you? How about commanding your bed to slide out with a gesture of your hands?<a href="http://cp.media.mit.edu/places-of-living-and-work/"> MIT’s robotic ‘home in a box’</a> can pack a full, spacious-feeling apartment into 200 square feet of space, including a bed, workspace, dining table for dix, storage and a mini kitchen. The box uses built-in sensors, motors, LED lights and low-friction rollers to respond to your voice commands or gestures.</p>
<h4>Ori Robotic Home Controlled via Smartphone App</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-102057" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/ori-robotic-home-644x354.jpg" alt="ori robotic home" width="644" height="354" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-102056" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/ori-robotic-home-2-644x352.jpg" alt="ori robotic home 2" width="644" height="352" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-102055" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/ori-robotic-home-3-644x403.jpg" alt="ori robotic home 3" width="644" height="403" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://player.vimeo.com/video/173697166' allowfullscreen frameborder='0'></iframe></div></p>
<p>There are all sorts of complex transforming furniture systems designed to fit maximum function into small spaces, but how many of them are operated through a smartphone app? T<a href="https://orisystems.com">he Ori system</a> (taking its name from the prefix of ‘origami’) runs on robotic technology, featuring an on-device user interface as well as an app for your handheld device so you can press a button to initiate various configurations, like the bed sliding out, the table folding down or the entire unit moving to tuck itself against a wall to open up the floor area.</p>

<p>Tiny vacation homes in the countryside of New Zealand, these ‘<a href="http://www.purepods.com">PurePods</a>’ have all-glass floors, walls and ceilings to give guests uninterrupted views of their beautiful surroundings in every room &#8211; even the shower.</p>

The car may not actually be road-ready, intended for exhibitions only, but it looks pretty cool and it’s fun to imagine watching the parts in motion.</p>

<p>Designed to completely immerse occupants in nature in any location around the world, the glass houses by <a href="http://www.santambrogiomilano.com">Santambrogiomilano</a> consist of structural glass on every surface except the ground floor. Different versions are adapted for different climactic conditions, with ‘Snow House’ able to withstand heavy snow loads, for example. Want privacy in one particular room? Sliding curtains make it possible, but the houses are intended for places where peeping toms are not a concern.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-97203" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/transparent-kitchen-1-644x426.jpg" alt="transparent-kitchen-1" width="644" height="426" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-97202" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/transparent-kitchen-2-644x429.jpg" alt="transparent-kitchen-2" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p>Better hope your kitchen cleaning habits are on point &#8211; the <a href="https://www.mvrdv.nl/news/mvrdv-present-infinity-kitchen-at-venice-biennale-2016">‘Infinity Kitchen’</a> by Dutch firm MVRDV won’t be forgiving with crumbs and streaks, as it displays everything from your stored food to your flatware and even features a clear cooktop and sink. “I see this as part of a wider dream, this kitchen,” says designer Winy Maas. “Imagine if not only our kitchens were transparent, but the walls through to the neighbor and the next neighbor even. This would create infinite perspectives in our cities. It would make within our claustrophobic environments possibly a view into the direction of the mountains or the sea.”</p>
<h4>Transparent Kayaks</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-97201" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/transparent-kayak-1-644x483.jpg" alt="transparent-kayak-1" width="644" height="483" /></p>

<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-97199" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/transparent-kayak-3-644x483.jpg" alt="transparent-kayak-3" width="644" height="483" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://player.vimeo.com/video/170108428' allowfullscreen frameborder='0'></iframe></div></p>
<p>Crystal-clear kayaks are actually catching on, with models like the <a href="http://www.molokinikayak.com">Molokini</a>, <a href="https://www.crystalkayak.com/products/single-crystal-explorer-kayak-by-the-crystal-kayak-company">Crystal Explorer Kayak </a>and <a href="http://www.seethroughcanoe.com/clear-canoes.html">See Through Canoe</a> offering users views of the aquatic life beneath them as they float. Made of Lexan for durability, these transparent vessels start at around $1,000 each.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Almost no space is too small to live in when you&#8217;ve got furniture that lowers from the ceiling, pulls out of the walls, transforms for multiple functions or even folds up flat to hang in the closet like clothing. These smart space-saving furniture designs cram maximum use into the most compact packages, often with beautiful, modern results. You&#8217;ll never look at a metal storage trunk the same way again.</p>
<h4>Bunk Bed Sofa</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-92571" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/space-saving-bunk-bed-sofa-1-644x385.jpg" alt="space saving bunk bed sofa 1" width="644" height="385" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-92570" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/space-saving-bunk-bed-sofa-3-644x385.jpg" alt="space saving bunk bed sofa 3" width="644" height="385" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-92569" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/space-saving-bunk-bed-sofa-2-644x385.jpg" alt="space saving bunk bed sofa 2" width="644" height="385" /></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>This is more than just a sofa bed &#8211; there are actually two beds hiding within its sleek contours thanks to a brilliant folding design. <a href="http://www.bonbon.co.uk/clei/doc.htm">The Doc </a>is a sofa by day, bunk bed by night, creating sleeping space for two guests in seconds.</p>
<h4>Furniture Functions Hidden in Metal Crates</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-92550" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/transforming-furniture-metal-crates-644x483.jpg" alt="transforming furniture metal crates" width="644" height="483" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-92549" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/transforming-furniture-metal-crates-2-644x548.jpg" alt="transforming furniture metal crates 2" width="644" height="548" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-92548" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/transforming-furniture-metal-crates-3-644x675.jpg" alt="transforming furniture metal crates 3" width="644" height="675" /></p>
<p>Traveling artists and other restless types can tote an entire studio apartment full of furniture with them quickly and easily with these mobile objects that transform into rugged metal crates on wheels. Designer <a href="http://naihanli.com">Naihan Lee</a>, an artist who has had to move often while living in Beijing, created the ‘Crates’ series to ensure that she would have beautiful, high quality furniture no matter where she ends up. The portable units include a bookshelf, single sofa, tea table, mobile bar, entertainment center, kitchen unit and writing desk.</p>
<h4>Shape-Shifting Chair</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-92568" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/space-saving-exocet-chair-644x385.jpg" alt="space saving exocet chair" width="644" height="385" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-92567" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/space-saving-exocet-chair-2-644x385.jpg" alt="space saving exocet chair 2" width="644" height="385" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-92566" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/space-saving-exocet-chair-3-644x385.jpg" alt="space saving exocet chair 3" width="644" height="385" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-92565" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/space-saving-exocet-chair-4-644x385.jpg" alt="space saving exocet chair 4" width="644" height="385" /></p>
<p>Better at conforming to the human body in any single position than the traditionally-shaped chairs humans have been using for thousands of years, the <a href="http://designarium.ca/project/exocet-chair/">Exocet</a> features two wooden ‘wings’ on a rotating steel axis that interlace to create virtually limitless sitting and lounging possibilities. Use it as a stool, a lounge chair, a high-back chair, a floor mat, a recliner, a seat for two or whatever else you can come up with.</p>
<h4>Bed Hidden in a Desk</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-92584" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/space-saving-bed-in-a-desk-644x486.jpg" alt="space saving bed in a desk" width="644" height="486" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-92583" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/space-saving-bed-in-a-desk-2-644x385.jpg" alt="space saving bed in a desk 2" width="644" height="385" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/oRCzRWvG15E?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>Even once you learned that this desk isn’t what it appears, you might imagine that it would be a pain to remove everything from its surfaces before transforming it into a bed. But the <a href="http://www.hiddenbedusa.com">Hiddenbed system</a> unfolds in a way that rests the desk surface on the floor beneath the mattress, leaving everything intact, including power cords. When you decide you want to lay down, it takes just a few seconds to pull out a couple pins and unfold it. Pillows even stay in place when you put the bed back up.</p>
<h4>Transforming Tiny Apartment</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-92582" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/space-saving-tiny-apartment-1-644x430.jpg" alt="space saving tiny apartment 1" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-92581" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/space-saving-tiny-apartment-2-644x430.jpg" alt="space saving tiny apartment 2" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-92580" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/space-saving-tiny-apartment-3-644x430.jpg" alt="space saving tiny apartment 3" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-92579" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/space-saving-tiny-apartment-4-644x430.jpg" alt="space saving tiny apartment 4" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-92578" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/space-saving-tiny-apartment-5-644x430.jpg" alt="space saving tiny apartment 5" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p>All sorts of tricks hide behind the surfaces of this 290-square-foot apartment in Brazil, custom-made by architect <a href="http://inhabitat.com/tiny-290-sq-ft-studio-boasts-a-genius-collection-of-space-saving-furniture/">Fabio Cherman</a> for his own use. Features include a compact sofa bed that uses a wall shelf as support (again, leaving your displayed objects intact), and on the other side of the room, there’s a wall panel that folds down to become a tabletop or a guest bed.</p>
