    <p><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-48889" alt="Indoor Swings Main" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Indoor-Swings-Main.jpg" width="468" height="401" /></p>
<p>Growing up shouldn&#8217;t mean having to let go of fun and free-spirited activities like swinging from the trees &#8211; or your living room rafters. Indoor swings can be as simple as a piece of wood strung from rope, or as complex as a hip set of eight modern swings around a dining room table. Here are 13 examples of interior swings that will inspire you to turn your home into a playground for all ages.</p>
<h4>Manu Nest Hanging Chair Made of Volcanic Basalt Fiber</h4>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-48883" alt="Indoor Swings Manu Nest" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Indoor-Swings-Manu-Nest.jpg" width="468" height="702" /></p>
<p>The shape may be fairly classic by now, but one thing this particular hanging chair has that others simply don&#8217;t is its highly unusual material: volcanic basalt fiber. Extremely lightweight and suitable for indoor or outdoor use, the <a href="http://www.maffamfree.com/2011/07/manu-nest/">Manu Nest chair by Maffam </a>can withstand 220kg (485 pounds) of weight while itself weighing just 15kg (33 pounds.)</p>
<h4>The Swing Necklace</h4>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-48887" alt="Indoor Swings Necklace" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Indoor-Swings-Necklace.jpg" width="468" height="626" /></p>
<p>Designed to look just like an oversized beaded necklace, the <a href="http://thedesignerpad.com/blog/2011/1/23/in-the-swing-of-things.html">Swing Necklace</a> by German interior designer Johanna Richter is definitely a conversation piece as well as a fun and functional piece of furniture. 10 feet long, it can be adjusted to the desired height.</p>
<h4>Swing Table by Christopher Duffy</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-48879" alt="Indoor Swings Table" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Indoor-Swings-Table-.jpg" width="468" height="539" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-48878" alt="Indoor Swings Table 2" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Indoor-Swings-Table-2.jpg" width="468" height="312" /></p>
<p>Business meetings would be a lot less boring if they were all held at designer Christopher Duffy&#8217;s <a href="http://design-milk.com/swing-table-by-christopher-duffy-for-duffy-london/">Swing Table</a>. Sleek and modern, the table suspends eight seats from bars built into a simple frame that also supports an overhead light.</p>
<h4>Bentwood Book-Shaped Swing</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-48886" alt="INdoor Swings Bentwood Book" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/INdoor-Swings-Bentwood-Book.jpg" width="468" height="600" /></p>
<p>Simple and ergonomic, the &#8216;<a href="http://www.dwell.com/product-day/article/christina-fesmires-swing-and-hit">Fugle Swing</a>&#8216; by Pratt Institute industrial design graduate Christine Fesmire is inspired by Scandinavian bentwood design. &#8220;I was intrigued with the impacts emerging from Scandinavia in the twentieth century and I wanted to bring this fascination closer to my image what a swing for adults could be. The practical issue of comfort and my aesthetic determined the overall shape.&#8221;</p>
<h4>Simple Living Room Swing</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-48885" alt="Indoor Swings Simple Living Room" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Indoor-Swings-Simple-Living-Room.jpg" width="468" height="383" /></p>
<p>As captured in this image by photographer <a href="http://www.matheusphoto.com/book2.html">Nicolas Matheus</a>, an indoor swing can be just as simple as one you&#8217;d find hanging from a tree in the backyard.</p>
<h4>Parade Swing by Julie Couch</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-48884" alt="Indoor Swings Parade Julie Couch" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Indoor-Swings-Parade-Julie-Couch.jpg" width="468" height="333" /></p>
<p>This design from <a href="http://www.juliecouch.com/parade-swing-2/">Julie Couch Interior Design</a> is reminiscent of cozy Southern porch swings, but it&#8217;s upholstered for extra comfort.</p>
<h4>ME&amp;U Upholstered Swing</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-48881" alt="Indoor Swings ME U" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Indoor-Swings-ME-U.jpg" width="468" height="297" /></p>
<p>This <a href="http://www.softline.dk/en/products/children/me_and_u">U-shaped upholstered swing</a> hangs from the ceiling with a wire, and comes in a range of colors and interchangeable fabric covers.</p>

    <p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-43239" title="modern sofa beds" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/modern-sofa-beds.jpg" width="468" height="307" /></p>
<p>When you want to have a place for house guests to sleep but don&#8217;t have a spare room in which to put them, a sofa bed can be a lifesaver. This original piece of transforming furniture has often been mocked as uncomfortable, ugly, and inconvenient. But today, a new generation of sleeper sofas is turning that perception upside down with style and surprising functionality.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-43232" title="doc bunk bed sofabed" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/doc-bunk-bed-sofabed.jpg" width="468" height="462" /></p>
<h6>(images via: <a href="http://www.bonbon.co.uk/clei/doc.htm#">Bonbon</a>)</h6>
<p><iframe loading="lazy" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LdSdqvAomzg?rel=0" height="351" width="468" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0"></iframe></p>
<p>The <a href="http://www.bonbon.co.uk/clei/doc.htm#">DOC sofa bed</a> from UK company Bonbon is an elegant solution to the small-space conundrum. By day it&#8217;s a regular-looking (and rather stylishly modern) sofa, but by night &#8211; or just when your old college roommates are visiting &#8211; it transforms into a bunk bed with room for two. As the video above demonstrates, the action to take the DOC from sofa to bunk bed is surprisingly simple.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-43233" title="campeggi sofa bed" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/campeggi-sofa-bed.jpg" width="468" height="353" /></p>
<h6>(images via: <a href="http://dornob.com/lazy-luxury-sleeper-convertible-push-button-couch-bed/">Dornob</a>)</h6>
<p>Italian furniture manufacturer <a href="http://www.campeggisrl.it/home.html">Campeggi</a> might just be onto something with their push-button convertible sofa. Rather than moving cushions, pulling hard on a reluctant mattress and trying desperately to smooth everything into place, this sofa lets you extend a single finger to take it from couch to bed. The drawbacks, of course, include having to keep it near an electrical outlet and the potential for inconvenient breakdowns &#8211; but it might be worth it to never have to deal with a standard sleeper sofa again.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-43234" title="adam wall unit sofa bed" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/adam-wall-unit-sofa-bed.jpg" width="468" height="462" /></p>
<h6>(images via: <a href="http://www.bonbon.co.uk/clei/adam.htm#">Bonbon</a>)</h6>
<p>Not all sofa beds are alike, as evidenced by the Adam horizontal wall bed unit from <a href="http://www.bonbon.co.uk/clei/adam.htm#">Bonbon</a>. Designed to fit into an office or den setting, the actual bed pulls down from the wall to cover the sofa. The clever setup is a bit different than the typical convertible sofa, but the Murphy bed-type solution still allows for a multi-functional space.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-43236" title="altea relax" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/altea-relax.jpg" width="468" height="306" /></p>
<h6>(images via: <a href="http://www.bonbon.co.uk/clei/altea_relax.htm#">Bonbon</a>)</h6>
<p>Likewise, the <a href="http://www.bonbon.co.uk/clei/altea_relax.htm#">Altea Relax</a> creates a room that can be made for socializing or for sleeping &#8211; all using a minimal amount of floor space. The Altea Relax incorporates a wall storage unit along with a pull-down bed, and the lower sofa segment also features a handy storage space under its surface.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-43235" title="de sede transforming sofa" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/de-sede-transforming-sofa.jpg" width="468" height="479" /></p>
<h6>(images via: <a href="http://www.desede.com/en/home-sector/collection/beds/ds-1164/">de Sede</a>)</h6>
<p>While not exactly a sofa that transforms into a bed, the DS-1164 from Swiss furniture maker <a href="http://www.desede.com/en/home-sector/collection/beds/ds-1164/">de Sede</a> is both a sofa and a bed. The elegant piece of furniture features &#8220;bed heads&#8221; which can be moved around into any configuration to create a comfy lounging or sleeping spot, no matter what time of day it is. As if it wasn&#8217;t hard enough to get out of bed in the morning already.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-43237" title="zuiver modular sofa" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/zuiver-modular-sofa.jpg" width="468" height="220" /></p>
<h6>(images via: <a href="http://dornob.com/combo-couch-all-in-one-lounger-love-seat-sofa-bed/">Dornob</a>)</h6>
<p>This modular convertible sofa from Dutch designers <a href="http://www.zuiver.nl/">Zuiver</a> is a fun departure from the usual bed-or-sofa binary design. It allows each individual segment to be moved up or down as desired, creating entirely new pieces of furniture every time. When entirely unfolded, the sofa could easily be used as a comfy temporary bed.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-43238" title="stefano sofa bed" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/stefano-sofa-bed.jpg" width="468" height="628" /></p>
<h6>(images via: <a href="http://www.grueneerde.com/de/Shop/Produkte/PVG1472/Bettsofa-Stefano-180%C3%97200-cm.html">Grüne Erde</a>)</h6>
<p>The stylish Stefano sofa bed completely redefines the functionality of a sofa bed, lending a superbly unique form factor to the classic piece of furniture. Rather than a sofa out of which a bed is pulled, the Stefano is a folding piece of soft foam that takes the form of a sofa when folded and a bed when unfolded. With no moving parts, the Stefano is simple enough for anyone to operate.</p>

    <p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-34159" title="lounge configuration with armrests" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/lounge-configuration-with-armrests.jpg" width="468" height="219" /></p>
<p>The idea of multi-functional furniture doesn&#8217;t have to stop with our sofa beds and ottoman coffee tables. This unusual sofa is convertible in so many ways that it almost seems exclusive to call it a sofa. It goes from a traditional sofa configuration to a bevy of other shapes with little effort to make a big impact on the style and comfort of a room.</p>
<p><span id="more-34158"></span></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-34164" title="modular changeable sofa" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/modular-changeable-sofa.jpg" width="468" height="227" /></p>
<h6>(all images via: <a href="http://svenik.tistory.com/112">Svenik</a>)</h6>
<p>Designed by the <a href="http://svenik.tistory.com/112">Zuiver</a> creative team from Holland, the <a href="http://dornob.com/combo-couch-all-in-one-lounger-love-seat-sofa-bed/">convertible sofa</a> lets each sitter customize his or her own ideal seating experience. Need some head support? A place to prop your feet? A way to comfortably stretch out your legs? Even if the person sitting next to you wants a totally different experience, you can have exactly what you want.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-34165" title="movable sofa headrests" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/movable-sofa-headrests.jpg" width="468" height="182" /></p>
<p>The secret to the furniture&#8217;s flexibility is the cushions, footrests and headrests which can be adjusted to a number of positions to suit the users. Folding each modular cushion up or down invents a whole new shape with different points of support.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-34166" title="snuggle friendly sofa" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/snuggle-friendly-sofa.jpg" width="468" height="233" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-34167" title="lounge configuration with armrests" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/lounge-configuration-with-armrests1.jpg" width="468" height="219" /></p>
<p>Lovers who wish to sit closer to one another can unfold the seats and the central armrest module to create a cozy snuggling nest. More casual acquaintances can keep their distance in a number of ways. Overnight guests would find the completely-unfolded shape spacious enough for a night or two of visiting.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-34160" title="rainbow colored modular convertible sofa" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/rainbow-colored-modular-convertible-sofa.jpg" width="468" height="317" /></p>
<p>While the grey version is absolutely gorgeous, the designers have also created a multi-colored prototype that further highlights the modular nature of the sofa. A small loveseat sized piece is also part of the suite, but the loss of size greatly detracts from the impressive functionality of the design.</p>

<p><!--wsa:gooold-->Most couches are boring. People are terrified to experiment with the central furnishing of their living room, so traditional styles are incredibly common. If stepping outside of the box is of any interest, it&#8217;s time to check out these fantastical couches that turn any living room into a major topic of conversation.</p>
<p><span id="more-30673"></span><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-30683" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Weird-Couches.gif" width="468" height="319" /></p>

<p>Some couches are maybe a little too creative. These examples are a bit exotic, but at least they look comfortable.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-30682" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Unique-Couches.gif" width="468" height="569" /></p>

<p>Here are some slick couches that fit a range of interior design styles. Whether a houseowner is a world traveler, a car fanatic, or just wants to always have a friend on the couch with them, these couches work!</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-30680" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Odd-Couches.gif" width="468" height="740" /></p>

<p>If modern design is still not crazy enough, try some of these kooky couch designs out. Wires, monsters, and industrial materials form the basis for some of the strangest couch designs around.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-30679" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Odd-Couch.gif" width="468" height="452" /></p>

<p>These couches are a great way to freshen up a living room. Turn typical on its head and create a living room with a hint of the wild to it.</p>

<p>Some modern couches seem more like play sets than serious furnishing, but there&#8217;s definitely a market for these interesting designs.</p>

<p>If checks are bouncing, it&#8217;s time to consider a DIY couch option. Favored by college students everywhere, this home furnishing alternative is a great way to set up an empty apartment without breaking the bank.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-30674" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Coffin-Couches.gif" width="468" height="382" /></p>

<p>There&#8217;s no better way to watch True Blood or Twilight than a coffin couch. These couches are a stellar way to integrate a macabre, gothic sensibility to any living room.</p>
