<p>What starts as a flat, stackable, highly portable package expands more than ten times its original size when you pull on either end, bending and curling to become a sofa for a group. <a href="https://www.facebook.com/FlexibleLove-1052818501431647/">The Flexible Love Sofa and Chair </a>are made from 100% recycled paper, yet they’re surprisingly strong, with the longer sofa holding up to 4,232 pounds at once when fully expanded. Designed in Taiwan, the series is available in ‘marble’ white, ‘lava’ black and ‘earth’ brown, and measures just over 5 inches across when collapsed.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-107567" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/n4q6zF0-Imgur-644x361.gif" alt="" width="644" height="361" /></p>

<p>The Flexible Love company shows off what the seats can do in a series of videos, so you can see it in action. It looks remarkably easy to manipulate, and somehow stays in place when you curl it into an S-shape or bend one end to the ground. If you’re skeptical that it can really hold as much weight as the company claims when expanded to its full 30-foot width, they’ve provided several images in which a group of people all stand on the seat at once.</p>

<p>With furniture like this, you’d never need to worry about accommodating extra guests again. It’s fun to see the different ways in which it can be arranged around tables. Each piece is hand-crafted of FSC-certified materials, assembly-free, recyclable and made with non-toxic finishing. Though the <a href="http://www.flexiblelove.com">Flexible Love</a> website is currently down for maintenance, you can purchase both the sofa and chair model at <a href="https://expandfurniture.com/product/flexible-love-16-seat-chair/">Expand Furniture </a>in the meantime, with prices starting at $380.</p>

<p>The 3X trailer deploys with the push of a button, tripling its interior space in a matter of seconds, turning a cramped road can by day into an expansive set of rooms at night.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-83792" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/3d-trailer-interior-468x199.jpg" alt="3d trailer interior" width="468" height="199" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-83791" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/telescoping-trailer-bedroom-468x199.jpg" alt="telescoping trailer bedroom" width="468" height="199" /></p>
<p>Designed by French company <a href="http://www.beauer.fr/en/?lang=fr">Beauer</a>, the nesting camper is about 8.5 by 6 feet in its travel-ready configuration, but the shorter dimension turns in the longer one (15 feet) when deployed.</p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/XZ1J4GRDA34?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>Its fixtures conveniently slot into place, unfolding to become parts of a set of bedroom, kitchen, living and dining areas (complete with refrigerator, stove, microwave, sink and toilet).</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-83789" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/trailer-work-space-468x201.jpg" alt="trailer work space" width="468" height="201" /></p>
<p>Portable tanks for potable and gray water systems are also included. Its compact configuration is ideal not just for taking it on the road but storing it in parking spots, driveways or garages when not in use.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-83790" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/telescoping-toilet-system-468x351.jpg" alt="telescoping toilet system" width="468" height="351" /></p>
<p>With a price tag of around $25,000 USD, the units may not be cheap but come packed with amenities. Currently for sale in France, plans are in place to expand sales throughout Europe and eventually around the world.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-83787" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/3x-trailer-new-468x291.jpg" alt="3x trailer new" width="468" height="291" /></p>
<p>A larger variant with built-in towing vehicle (shown above) is also in development, utilizing similar space-saving and expansion strategies in addition to other caravan buildouts. Perhaps one model or another could take the action as its name: the <em>Tripling </em>has a nice ring to it.</p>

<p>Entitled <a href="http://shinple.com/projects/0002_land-peel.html">&#8216;Land Peel,&#8217;</a> this piece by Shin Yamashita is a flat floor mat with elements that pop up to create a variety of seating and working/eating surfaces.</p>
<h4>My Space Fold-Out Play Area for Kids<br />

<p>Small living spaces rarely have enough room for an entire children&#8217;s play area, but fold-away solutions create one when it&#8217;s needed. <a href="http://liyamairson.daportfolio.com/gallery/548132#3">My Space by Liya Mairson</a> packs almost entirely flat when not in use, but pops up into a fun little private play space within minutes. Since it&#8217;s made of cardboard, it&#8217;s light enough for kids to set up themselves.</p>
<h4>Pull-Out Dining Room<br />

<p>Bench seating, a dining table, and even an overhead light pull out of this <a href="http://dornob.com/transforming-pull-out-dining-room-wall-furniture/">compact pull-out dining room design</a>, which also contains storage space.</p>

<p>Get access to the outdoors from an upper-level apartment or condo in under a minute with this cool <a href="http://www.hofmandujardin.nl/index2.html">pop-out balcony</a> by Hofman Dujardin Architects. <p>Rooms rotate, roofs open to the sky, facades slide away to reveal glass walls and interiors literally turn inside out in these 13 transforming, highly customizable home designs. Some close up into impenetrable fortresses for maximum security while others unfold to blur the boundaries between indoors and out.</p>
<h4>The Sliding House by DRMM</h4>
<h4><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-70489" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Transforming-Houses-Sliding-2-468x296.jpg" alt="Transforming Houses Sliding 2" width="468" height="296" /></h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-70490" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Transforming-Houses-Sliding-1-468x311.jpg" alt="Transforming Houses Sliding 1" width="468" height="311" /></p>
<p>The outer walls and roof of this house in Suffolk, England by <a href="http://drmm.co.uk/projects/view.php?p=sliding-house">DRMM</a> slide back and forth on rails to reveal a glassed-in static structure, opening the house to the outside world to a highly customizable degree. Deceptively simple-looking when it&#8217;s all closed up, the house practically transforms into a greenhouse when the 50-ton mobile roof and wall enclosure is pulled back via electric motors charged by solar panels.</p>
<h4>Bedrooms That Can Be Wheeled Outside</h4>
<h4><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-70487" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Transforming-Houses-Sarzeau-1-468x279.jpg" alt="Transforming Houses Sarzeau 1" width="468" height="279" /></h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-70486" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Transforming-Houses-Sarzeau-2-468x302.jpg" alt="Transforming Houses Sarzeau 2" width="468" height="302" /></p>
<p>Ever wish you could move your bed outside on a particularly nice day? The lucky residents of <a href="http://www.raum.fr/">this house in Sazeau, France by Raum</a> can go one step further, wheeling their entire bedrooms out of the house and onto a wooden terrace to interact with the surrounding landscape. A large doorway makes it easy to move the lightweight wooden cubes outside.</p>
<h4>Push a Button, Change Your House Layout</h4>
<h4><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-70485" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Transforming-Houses-Rotating-Rooms-1-468x324.jpg" alt="Transforming Houses Rotating Rooms 1" width="468" height="324" /></h4>
<h4><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-70484" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Transforming-Houses-Rotating-Rooms-2.jpg" alt="Transforming Houses Rotating Rooms 2" width="468" height="498" /></h4>
<p>Three wooden boxes within a fixed volume rotate and extend outward with the push of a button at the <a href="https://weburbanist.com/2014/07/28/rotating-rooms-push-a-button-change-your-house-layout/">Sharifi-Ha house in Tehran by nextoffice</a>. The volumes contain a guest room, home office and dining room that can either be aligned flush against the static parts of the home or rotated so the glassed-in ends face a variety of angles.</p>
<h4>M-Velope Transformer House</h4>
<h4><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-70483" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Transforming-Houses-Mvelope-1-468x342.jpg" alt="Transforming Houses Mvelope 1" width="468" height="342" /></h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-70482" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Transforming-Houses-Mvelope-2-468x384.jpg" alt="Transforming Houses Mvelope 2" width="468" height="384" /></p>
<p>A <a href="http://www.michaeljantzen.com/Welcome.html">230-square-foot mobile living space</a> expands in surprising ways with slatted wood panels that bend and angle in surprising ways. Extending out from a steel frame, the walls fold to reveal interior benches, sleeping platforms, work surfaces and small shaded rooms.</p>
<h4>Shed-to-Beach-House</h4>
<h4><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-70481" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Transforming-Houses-Huts-on-Sleds-1.jpg" alt="Transforming Houses Huts on Sleds 1" width="468" height="398" /></h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-70480" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Transforming-Houses-Huts-on-Sleds-2.jg_-468x334.jpg" alt="Transforming Houses Huts on Sleds 2.jg" width="468" height="334" /></p>
<p>What looks like no more than a wooden shed at first glance is actually a mobile beach house that can be towed off the sand before severe storms. Located on the northern coast of New Zealand, the &#8216;hut on a sled&#8217; by <a href="http://www.ccca.co.nz/">Crosson Clarke Carnachan</a> features a large wooden shutter facade that opens to reveal a two-story glazed wall facing the sea. The glass is operable, as well, opening the entire interior up to the ocean breezes.</p>

    <p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" alt="balcony unfolding design" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/balcony-unfolding-design.jpg" width="468" height="327" /></p>
<p>When it comes to tall apartment and condo buildings, the idea of adding more space is almost always out of the question &#8211; but what if you could push a balcony outward on demand, rather than adding an entire deck or patio? Here are three designs to expand outdoor space in creative ways.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" alt="balcony extension electronic system" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/balcony-extension-electronic-system.jpg" width="468" height="396" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/UrVuJ7WXvQU?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>The <a href="http://www.bloomframe.nl/">Bloomframe</a> is a Dutch architect-designed system that turns a simple set of windows into a spacious exterior extension that can be electronically deployed and retracted &#8211; like a convertible top, you can experience the outdoors during nice weather, take out the grill, then close the unit as desired.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-46371" alt="space extension juliet balcony" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/space-extension-juliet-balcony.jpg" width="468" height="748" /></p>
<p>An alternative from <a href="http://www.fakrousa.com/">Fakro</a> works with existing frame sizes on angled roofs, and provides you both a way to lean out (a form of Juliet balcony, with window frame doubling as front rail) as well as overhead shelter from the rain. This system is also simpler and entirely mechanical, so deploying it is as easy as opening a normal glass window.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" alt="space saving deck furniture" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/space-saving-deck-furniture.jpg" width="468" height="312" /></p>
<p>And for those who already have a deck, but not enough room to put any furniture on it, this space-saving furniture solution (<em>Spaceless) </em>by <a href="http://www.sandylamdesign.com/">Sandy Lam</a> is a great source of inspiration: her designs for a table and seat set that fold up for use and hide, camouflaged amid wood decking, when tucked back away.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" alt="space small balcony pictures" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/space-small-balcony-pictures.jpg" width="468" height="308" /></p>
<p>From the designer: <em>&#8220;the average price of residential buildings in downtown Vancouver BC has reached $800 per square foot. Many people have to give up their garden living and move into concrete buildings because of this increase in housing prices. Even though living space is expensive, there is one space rarely used in condo buildings—the balcony. The goal of having &#8220;Spaceless&#8221; is to use the condo balcony to maximize living space and to improve the building environment by enhancing the functionality of the balcony space.&#8221;</em></p>
