<p>A remarkable composite with an incredible amount of detail, this photograph was assembled from nearly 200 different images of NYC representing 10,000 megapixels of data, all put together over the course of a year.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-109597" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/high-res-new-york-644x362.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="362" /></p>
<p>Photographer, engineer, and entrepreneur <a href="https://vastphotos.com/">Dan Piech</a> decided to capture his stunning shot of Manhattan (from a rooftop in Queens), titled <em>A New York City Dream</em>, in tribute to the bustling city on one of its busiest nights: New Year&#8217;s Eve.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-109595" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/closeup-image-644x429.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p>“I wanted to create an extremely high-resolution photographic artwork that captured the vibrant energy our city continually bursts forth with—a seemingly chaotic energy that nevertheless has structure, order, and rhythm,” he says of the piece. Being spun into a &#8216;tiny planet&#8217; type image, the city also wraps endlessly, a world unto itself.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-109593" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/architecture-spirla-644x429.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p>To put all of the photographs together and align them in terms of subjects but also color content took around a year. The finished image can be zoomed in almost endlessly to the point where, as a physical print, it would span dozens of feet, while still retaining a crisp quality. <a href="https://redirect.viglink.com/?format=go&amp;jsonp=vglnk_151278256306919&amp;key=035385aa205e0d504e148c27f8aa731f&amp;libId=jayndeli01013v6i000DL51nbqwa5qovo&amp;loc=https%3A%2F%2Fmymodernmet.com%2Fultra-high-resolution-photograph-nyc%2F&amp;v=1&amp;out=https%3A%2F%2Fvastphotos.com%2F&amp;title=Ultra-High%20Resolution%20Photograph%20of%20Manhattan%20is%20602%20Megapixels&amp;txt=VAST%20Photos">VAST now sells prints</a>.</p>

<p>From <a href="https://mymodernmet.com/ultra-high-resolution-photograph-nyc/">My Modern Met</a>, &#8220;Piech launched VAST with an aim to bring fine art photographers with stunning aesthetics together with technical experts specialized in producing high resolution (1,000+ megapixel) images. VAST currently works with a roster of 11 artists who create these specialized images. Using high dynamic range imaging, focus stacking, image blending, and other techniques, these special photographs can be printed on a large scale with razor-sharp quality.&#8221;</p>

<p>Working both in black-and-white as well as color, depending on what he is trying to depict, many of his works are simple loops of short time periods &#8211; typical cinemagraphs &#8211; but others go beyond that basic typology, too.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-71729" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/urban-daily-grind-loop.gif" alt="urban daily grind loop" width="468" height="253" /></p>

<p>In his Routine series, for instance, individuals are looped but also overlaid in multiples within the frame, creating a sense of infinite or endless repetition &#8211; in other sets (examples shown below) he utilizes transparency, nature and reflections to enrich each frame.</p>

<p>The right place, proper timing and a keen eye conspired to help a photographer capture this eerie nighttime phenomena at a crossroads outside of Weimar, Germany.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/rainbow-night-light-green-468x312.jpg" alt="rainbow night light green" width="468" height="312" /></p>

<p>German photographer <a href="http://www.behance.net/gallery/Traffic-lights/13150627">Lucas Zimmermann</a> found and shot this intersection at each stage of the its cyclical change, capturing green, yellow and red.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/rainbow-light-full-spectrume-468x326.jpg" alt="rainbow light full spectrume" width="468" height="326" /></p>
<p>He also went a step beyond the sequential with one particularly impressive shot spanning the entire cycle, creating a rainbow in the mist.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/rainbow-light-black-white-468x312.jpg" alt="rainbow light black white" width="468" height="312" /></p>
<p>His other work spans from the rural United States to the streets of Beijing, but usually focuses on people over places &#8211; this set, however, proved a worthy exception.</p>
