These 13 ultra-creative modern office designs are tailored to the identities, preferences and missions of the individual companies, prioritizing employee comfort and a sense of fun.

Agoratic in Paris by Stéphane Malka

This strikingly graphic transforming space in Paris by Stéphane Malka uses a flexible partition system to open or delineate offices for computer education company Agoratic. The new space includes a variety of versatile zones that can be used as meeting rooms, digital training spaces, administrative offices and more. The effect is a little disorienting, but not in a bad way – it’s almost like the building houses untold secrets and hidden spaces waiting to be found.

Cloud DCS Office in China by Arboit Limited

The Cloud DCS office in China by Arboit is a visual interpretation of the internet as a physical space, and it truly feels out of this world. The Hong Kong-based architects were commissioned to renovate the interiors of an existing 20,000 square meter industrial building, adding offices, spaces for thousands of servers, client meeting spaces and multimedia show rooms. The result looks straight off the set of a sci-fi movie, with entire rooms upholstered in white leather, flooring printed with clouds, spaceship-like work pods and a gallery with a mirrored floor set within a spiral.

SRAM Headquarters in Chicago by Perkins + Will

SRAM, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of bicycle components, commissioned global firm Perkins + Will to design a dynamic office environment befitting of their status. The result, set within a former cold storage warehouse in Chicago, includes a meandering 1/8-mile bicycle test track. The bike-centric space also features an outdoor terrace that wraps around the office, a cafe where workers can choose to work all day, and a variety of other open or private areas.

“We believe in the power of bicycles to transform lives, and, in this new space, our culture celebrates that,” says David Zimberoff, Vice President of Marketing at SRAM. “People are really stoked. How could you not walk a prospect or a new employee through here and not have them want to work here?”

Airmas Asri Offices in Jakarta

Have you ever daydreamed about working within a lush jungle? In Jakarta, the firm Airmas Asri Architects gave themselves a gorgeous home base in the middle of the bustling city, with greenery climbing the airy facade and filling a central courtyard. Skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows that open out onto the vegetation enhance the atmosphere.

Innovation Collaboration 13 Cool Office Designs Spark Creativity

Unless you happen to work at Google, your conventional office space is going to seem awfully boring compared to the slides, disappearing desks, submarine-inspired meeting pods, turfed running tracks and other unusual design choices at these 13 highly creative workplaces.

Monolithic Chair-Free Office

There are no chairs to be found in this faceted office space full of sloping geometric surfaces – workers have to either stand, perch on benches or lounge. Not that they’re complaining. Developed by design studio RAAAF and visual artist Barbara Visser, the workplace design is entitled ‘The End of Sitting.’ “The installation’s various affordances solicit visitors to explore different standing positions in an experimental work landscape.”

Wave-Like ‘Superdesk’

One single desk surface weaves and undulates through the office for a digital creative industry like a ribbon, rising up in spots to create arched entrances to tucked-away work areas. The glossy, gleaming ‘Superdesk’ by Clive Wilkinson Architects seats all 125 employees of The Barbarian Group and transforms what would normally be considered furniture into architecture complete with roofs. The undersides of the desk offer storage, and occasionally reach heights that are tall enough to create private little alcoves.

Shipping Container Offices

Clive Wilkinson and Associates also created an incredible shipping container-based work environment for Pallotta Teamworks in a new and entirely empty 47,000-square-foot warehouse in Los Angeles. The firm had to do the project on half the usual budget for such a space, making it difficult to even fully air-condition it, so they came up with a creative solution: seven tented villages or ‘breathing islands’ that are climate-controlled while the rest of the space is not.

Disappearing Desks

There’s no danger of overworking yourself at Amsterdam design studio Hedergroen: once office hours are up, staff desks simply disappear. Computers, paperwork and other desktop items remain in place as the desks raise up to the ceiling on steel cables. When morning comes, they drop down again, resting on rolling cabinets for stability.

Odd Offices 13 Outside The Box Workspace Designs

If your office was a pirate ship, would you be more or less likely to slack off? The incredible offices of Inventionland design factory in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania look more like a theme park or movie sound stage than a workplace, keeping their employees inspired to come up with creative ideas of their own. Inventionland invents nearly 2,000 new items every year, putting out one product every three days.

The 70,000-square-foot space is divided into 16 different ‘sets’, each with a unique theme of its own. There’s a race track with a distinctive checkered pattern, elevated like a miniature arena, with the desks in the center. Caves provide peaceful work spaces for those who need isolation to perform at their best.

A massive castle has a sense of highly polished Disney-esque luxury, while a treehouse and a waterfall offer tranquil getaways of the sort most cubicle-dwellers only dream of.

Inventionland Offices From Tree Houses To Race Tracks

What would you think if you walked into an antique store in your town, and found it overflowing with the owners’ laundry? In much of the Western world, we tend to keep our lives rigidly compartmentalized, but in Southeast Asia, the boundaries are blurred – resulting in seemingly chaotic and visually stimulating live/work spaces. German photographer and artist Peter Nitsch documented these small combined homes and businesses for his series ‘SHOPHOUSES – 4 x 8 m Bangkok’.

Mechanic shops are filled to the brim with both the expected stacks of tires, and colorful art. In a hair salon, a woman sits beside a refrigerator, peeling potatoes. A watchmaker’s shop is packed floor-to-ceiling with boxes and trunks. Doors open to private spaces beyond, giving customers a glimpse at the private lives of the owners.

Bangkok is full of these combination home/businesses, which are usually two stories with the lower level open to the street, but the typical tourist will never notice. These shophouses can be founded on the outer edges of the city, away from the snarled traffic and blinking neon lights.

“But if one allows the pictures to make an impression, a fractal pattern with a high degree of similarity is to be gradually recognised in the overfilled rooms, which from the sheer number of objects suddenly makes a structured Mandelbrot set,” says Nitsch. “The chaos becomes a cosmos and thus transforms into its opposite: an orderliness, to which the photographs additionally lend their characteristic power of peace.”

Reader beware! These offices will make anyone jealous. For anyone viewing this from inside the felt-covered walls of their cubicle, take hope in the fact that the office environment is slowly changing from being stodgy and uniform, into something reflective of a company’s personality.

Google is known for their excessively awesome offices, full of extremely comfortable benefits (think massage chairs, super technological toilets). Google’s Zurich office is no different. It’s difficult to type with freezing hands, so the designers of this office decided to bring the winter inside. Workers can take a call on what appears to be a snowy slope, down to the ski lifts. When it’s time for a siesta, there are relaxing chairs set up for a lovely snooze.

Quid is an office of data scientists, and they turned their brains toward design when putting together their office. They exemplify the stereotype of the funky and creative startup scene. Plastic flaps create a meeting room just isolated enough for an intimate chat, without feeling closed in. Not having thousands of books doesn’t mean you can’t have a library. The subtle use of bookshelf wallpaper can easily create the illusion of a literary castle.

Mojang created a hit with their indie software, Minecraft, and decided to celebrate with an office as funky as their work. With lots of leather, billiards, and dim lighting, they create an awesomely cozy environment, almost like an overgrown classic home office. One of their meeting rooms has an intricate, Minecraft-styled mural that reflects their aesthetics while keeping it fun.

The McLaren Technology Centre is located in Surrey, in the United Kingdom, and is the home of some of the coolest car designers in the world. It’s fitting, then, that their headquarters contain the same creative, cool design, as the vehicles they make. Based right on water, the view out of every window makes every office a winner.

Edward Ogosta Architecture created this wild space for a media agency in Los Angeles. They literally turned the cubicle on its side, creating a sense of privacy while keeping the area open and communal. The bright design continues out into a perfect meeting space where the entire office can convene at the same time.
