    <p><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-112576" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/rugged-coffee-maker-644x569.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="569" /></p>
<p>Made by power tool-maker Makita, this is the ultimate coffee machine to energize construction workers, charged by the same batteries already in use on work sites. The CM501D is designed to derive energy from plug-in, rechargeable, lithium-ion power sources that drive cordless screws, drills, saws and other standard equipment.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-112574" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/tool-set-644x420.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="420" /></p>
<p>For those unfamiliar with them: these swappable systems (used by various companies) add simplicity and redundancy, allowing different tools to work off share batteries, so some can be recharged while others are in use.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-112573" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/swappable-batteries-644x218.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="218" /></p>
<p>The Japanese company behind this unusual battery usage boasts the mobility of the device, which can be brought to work sites that are not yet plugged into the grid. It can make about a half-dozen cups on a single 18V battery charge, from modular coffee packs or ground coffee It is convenient, requiring no paper filter (grounds can be poured straight in), compact, versatile and fast.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-112577" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/earlier-model-644x318.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="318" /></p>
<p>Makita’s first coffee maker went on sale in 2015, but the design was more conventional &#8212; it was less robust and compact (featuring a cord that batteries could be plugged into). The new model is made to me sturdier and safer, an all-in-one machine without any lines to trip over.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-112575" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/rugged-design-644x591.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="591" /></p>
<p>As a general strategy, this powering system opens the door to other similar ideas, too &#8212; anything needing electricity on a building site could be adapted to function in a similar way. Meanwhile, other toolmakers (like DeWalt, Ryobi, Bosch and Dremel) could learn a lesson or two from this manufacturer.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s hard to imagine a more flexible and functional piece of furniture to spend a third of your life in than <a href="https://www.sgshop.com/taobao/tao-bao/details?tbid=534564117218&amp;cno=0&amp;cid=50020000&amp;sptitle=%E6%8C%89%E6%91%A9+%E7%9C%9F%E7%9A%AE%E5%BA%8A%E6%A6%BB%E6%A6%BB%E7%B1%B3%E5%BA%8A%E7%9A%AE%E5%BA%8A%E7%9A%AE%E8%89%BA%E5%BA%8A%E5%8F%8C%E4%BA%BA%E5%BA%8A1.8%E7%B1%B3%E5%82%A8%E7%89%A9%E5%A9%9A%E5%BA%8A%E7%8E%B0%E4%BB%A3%E7%AE%80%E7%BA%A6%E4%B8%BB%E5%8D%A7">this one</a> from Singapore, featuring an array of creature comforts and high-tech customizations.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-106913" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/high-tech-bed-644x447.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="447" /></p>
<p>USB ports and plugs tie into charging and speaker systems for lounging around with tunes and devices, while an optional massage chair can help relax the restless before sleep.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-106911" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/swap-parts-mod-furniture-644x422.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="422" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-106909" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/laptop-stand-644x398.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="398" /></p>
<p>An array of benches and loungers lets users lay down or sit up in any number of positions, while a fold-out desk attachment allow for laptop use as well. Storage options include a linen-and-pillow trunk beneath the bottom-of-bed bench and a built-in safe for valuables, plus a bunch of shelves and cabinets.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-106910" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/bed-frame-design-644x517.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="517" /></p>
<p>Perhaps the best part: all of these features can be swapped out because the modules around the bed itself are not permanently fixed. Buyers can choose which ones they want to prioritize then surround themselves with choice luxuries accordingly.</p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/fSe8FDDv7MI?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>At $500 to $1000 depending on options, materials and finishes, they are pretty reasonably priced, too, though be sure to check the measurements: they are designed for the Asian market and shorter individuals, so tall people may want to consider them inspiration rather than potential purchases.</p>

<p class="p1">Anyone passing through New York City&#8217;s Bryant Park can avoid the headache of searching for free outlets at coffee shops to juice up their phones, powering up at outdoor tables with built-in solar charging stations. Solar company Green Barrel Energy Inc. teamed up with street furniture manufacturer Landscape Forms and the <a href="http://blog.bryantpark.org/2014/07/solar-powered-charging-stations-land-in.html">Bryant Park Corporation</a> to provide free power with cables that fit most electronic devices.</p>
<p class="p2"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-70353" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/CityCharge-Solar-Charging-Stations-5-468x667.jpg" alt="CityCharge Solar Charging Stations 5" width="468" height="667" /></p>
<p class="p2"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-70352" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/CityCharge-Solar-Charging-Stations-6-468x474.jpg" alt="CityCharge Solar Charging Stations 6" width="468" height="474" /></p>
<p class="p1">Each small round table is set on swiveling wheels (lockable, so they can&#8217;t be stolen), making them portable enough to move out of the way for special events or to keep the rotating panels in the sun throughout the changing seasons.</p>
<p class="p2"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-70356" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/CityCharge-Solar-Charging-Stations-2-468x272.jpg" alt="CityCharge Solar Charging Stations 2" width="468" height="272" /></p>
<p class="p2"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-70354" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/CityCharge-Solar-Charging-Station-4-468x488.jpg" alt="CityCharge Solar Charging Station 4" width="468" height="488" /></p>
<p class="p1">The round design promotes social interaction, encouraging people to gather around and have a conversation as their gadgets charge. The six prototypes are currently being tested in Bryant Park, and six additional tables are coming soon, along with more in other areas throughout New York City and eventually, the United States.</p>
<p class="p2"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-70355" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/CityCharge-Solar-Charging-Station-3-468x623.jpg" alt="CityCharge Solar Charging Station 3" width="468" height="623" /></p>
<p class="p1">The compact footprint makes it easy to fit the tables into existing public spaces, working with a variety of seating, umbrellas and ground surfaces. Waterproof and weatherproof, it can be left outdoors full-time without needing any special storage during rain or snow.</p>

    <p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-49884" alt="window socket" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/window-socket.jpg" width="468" height="426" /></p>
<p>With batteries running low, your eye roams the room for a place to plug in, but then you remember: you brought your own power supply &#8211; all you need now is a window. Portable, easy and green, this solar socket design is a stroke of genius, able to both generate and hold a charge.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" alt="window portable power generator" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/window-portable-power-generator.jpg" width="468" height="530" /></p>
<p>A suction cup lets you stick the converter to any flat glazed surface, putting photovoltaic panels on the outside and a customary energy outlet on the other. And if you are worried about what happens at night or in overcast conditions: the device itself can store energy for in-place or mobile use.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" alt="window mounted solar cells" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/window-mounted-solar-cells.jpg" width="468" height="601" /></p>
<p><strong> Kyuho Song &amp; Boa Oh</strong> have added a few other functional quirks to the design: rotate your charger plug and you kill the power, spinning a circular cut-off switch built into the face plate. There is a second manual on/off switch on the bottom as well.</p>
