    <p><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-105900" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/snapchat-spectacles-644x310.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="310" /></p>
<p>Not all wearable tech has to be a tiny smartphone on your wrist or a device that tracks how many steps you&#8217;ve taken &#8211; it can also record your memories as you see them, visibly react to your emotions, flirt with people on your behalf, warn others they&#8217;re invading your personal space or even measure your sexual performance. These unconventional wearables are also a little less dorky than usual, aiming to blend fashion and technology in a way that&#8217;s exciting,  beautiful and sometimes strange.</p>
<h4>Robotic Jewelry by MIT Media Lab</h4>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-105915" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/robotic-jewelry-644x429.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-105914" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/robotic-jewelry-2-644x493.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="493" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://player.vimeo.com/video/227929545' allowfullscreen frameborder='0'></iframe></div></p>
<p>What look, at first, like jewels or little bulbous decorative accents on a blouse suddenly start crawling around like they’ve got minds of their own. <a href="https://www.media.mit.edu/">‘Kino’</a> is a collection of ‘living’ jewelry from MIT Media Lab, designed to reconfigure itself in response to environmental conditions. “It is our vision that in the future, these robots will be miniaturized to the extend that they can be seamlessly integrated into existing practices of body ornamentation. With the addition of kinetic capabilities, traditionally static jewelry and accessories will start displaying life-like qualities, learning, shifting, and reconfiguring to the needs and prefereces of the wearer, also assisting in fluid presentation of self.”</p>
<h4>Lumoscura Smog Mask by Stephanie Liu</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-105913" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/lumoscura-smog-mask-1-644x430.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-105912" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/lumoscura-smog-mask-2-644x430.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p>Dazzling fiber optics inspired by shimmering white peacock feathers make the need to wear a smog mask at least a little bit more fashionable. Says designer <a href="http://www.stefliudesign.com/lumoscuramask/">Stephanie Liu</a>, “Masks have always been associated with disease, fear and negativity. Some wear it in public to hide their identities, in reality it attracts attention and can generate fear and stress amongst those in their immediate surroundings. As air pollution becomes more and more of an issue in many countries, people have begun to surrender to wearing a mask for the sake of their health, however there are still a lot of people who do not wear masks for many reasons &#8211; the top three being unattractive, uncomfortable and repelling people.”</p>
<h4>Smart Self-Defense Spider Dress by Anouk Wipprecht</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-105911" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/smart-spider-dress-644x484.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="484" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-105910" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/spider-robot-dress-2-644x429.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://player.vimeo.com/video/114828162' allowfullscreen frameborder='0'></iframe></div></p>
<p>People might be less likely to mess with you if the mechanical spider you’re wearing as a dress makes a sudden move. That’s the idea behind the Smart Spider Dress by<a href="http://www.anoukwipprecht.nl/"> Anouk Wipprecht</a>, powered by Intel Edison. The legs of the spider constantly move, reacting to the wearer’s real-time biometrics as well as violations of social norms, like when someone invades their personal space. “Since the system based with mechanic spider legs is literally hosted on the shoulders of the wearer and attacks using the same viewing angle as the wearer, the system knows how you feel and adapts to those feelings,” says Wipprecht.</p>
<h4>MIT Duoskin Temporary Electrical Tattoos</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-105905" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/duoskin-tattoos-644x472.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="472" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-105904" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/duoskin-tattoos-2-644x479.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="479" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://player.vimeo.com/video/178334883' allowfullscreen frameborder='0'></iframe></div></p>
<p>Anyone can create functional devices directly attached to their skin, including lights and controls for mobile devices, using an electricity-conducting gold leaf paint in a fun design that makes it look like a metallic tattoo. “We believe that in the future, on-skin electronics will no longer be black-boxed and mystified; instead they will converge toward user friendliness, extensibility, and aesthetics of body decorations, forming a DuoSkin integrated to the extent that it has seemingly disappeared,” says <a href="http://duoskin.media.mit.edu/">MIT</a>, who refer to the project as ‘digital skin jewelry.’</p>
<h4>i.Con Smart Condom Ring Measures Performance</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-105901" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/smart-condom-644x472.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="472" /></p>
<p>No more boasting about your performance using inaccurate figures. The <a href="http://britishcondoms.uk/">i.Con smart condom ring </a>by British Condoms will know exactly how long you last, how many positions you used, ‘velocity of thrusts,’ ‘girth’ and other data, sending the information straight to your smartphone via bluetooth. One positive of this technology is, it can give users a way to measure improvement if their data is disappointing and they want to work on things. But perhaps even more valuable is the fact that the wearable comes with an ‘antibodies filter’ to detect the presence of <a href="https://infections-treatment.com/" style="color:inherit;text-decoration:inherit;font-weight:inherit;">sexually transmitted infections</a>.</p>

<p>They can&#8217;t quite measure up to R2D2, but a new array of consumer robots offer all sorts of practical advantages, including companionship, soothing babies back to sleep, playing with pets, folding laundry and making the perfect latte. All 12 of these robot home companions have passed the concept stage into fully-operational products, and many of them are already up for sale.</p>
<h4>Cargo Carrier: Gita Bot</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100705" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/gita-cargo-robot-644x429.jpg" alt="gita-cargo-robot" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100704" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/gita-cargo-robot-2-644x363.gif" alt="gita-cargo-robot-2" width="644" height="363" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100703" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/gita-3-644x429.jpg" alt="gita-3" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/2Ntnzu0B6Bs?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>From the same company who gave us the Vespa scooter comes <a href="http://www.piaggiofastforward.com/gita.php">Gita</a>, a cargo bot that’ll carry your stuff for you, follow you ask you walk, stop when you do, slow down when necessary and even keep up if you start running. You could use it to haul groceries home from the neighborhood market, deliver packages or as a travel aide; a display screen lets you know when the battery is getting low. One thing that’s not clear is how it manages stairs.</p>
<h4>Scooter Bot: Segway Advanced Personal Robot</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100702" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/segway-robot-644x261.jpg" alt="segway-robot" width="644" height="261" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100701" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/segway-robot-2-644x428.jpg" alt="segway-robot-2" width="644" height="428" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100700" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/segway-robot-3-644x428.jpg" alt="segway-robot-3" width="644" height="428" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/Efx-J8fzlKo?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>Recently renamed ‘Loomo,’ the<a href="http://robot.segway.com"> Segway ‘Advanced Personal Robot’</a> is a cross between a robot companion and a functional scooter, capable of recognizing individuals and following them until it’s needed. It’s able to stay in balance while carrying loads, and its microphones listen for voice commands. Sensors keep it from bumping into objects and help it map your home and other surroundings so it can navigate itself. It’s currently still in development.</p>
<h4>Cute Companion: Kuri Home Robot</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100699" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/kuri-home-robot-1-644x431.jpg" alt="kuri-home-robot-1" width="644" height="431" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100698" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/kuri-home-robot-2-644x431.jpg" alt="kuri-home-robot-2" width="644" height="431" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100697" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/kuri-home-robot-3-644x365.jpg" alt="kuri-home-robot-3" width="644" height="365" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/0uVJQQKpkl8?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>This 20-inch-tall, 14-pound personal companion robot chirps, blinks and ‘smiles’ in response to your attention, and it’s able to recognize specific people, understand context and surroundings, play music, read books, project video, tell you the weather and perform other useful everyday tasks. The <a href="https://www.heykuri.com">Kuri</a> bot responds to verbal commands and can also be controlled and maintained through a smartphone app.</p>
<h4>Pet Entertainer: Rolling Bot by LG</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100696" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/LG-rolling-bot-644x362.jpg" alt="lg-rolling-bot" width="644" height="362" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100695" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/rolling-bot-LG-2-644x390.jpg" alt="rolling-bot-lg-2" width="644" height="390" /></p>

<p>This little bot may not have as much personality as the Kuri, but it’s got some seriously useful functions if you’re the kind of homeowner and/or pet owner who wants to keep a close eye on things while you’re gone. The <a href="http://www.lg.com/uk">Rolling Bot by LG</a> is part security system, part pet toy, part smart home gadget with a built-in camera and the capability to roll itself through your home, turning lights on and off, sending you video footage, or entertaining your dogs and cats with dancing and lasers. You can control it through your phone to talk to your pets through it, too.</p>

<p>Thus far, the 21st century has been pretty disappointing for those of us who grew up expecting flying cars, teleportation devices and recreational trips to the moon by the time we were adults. While there were some things sci-fi films like Back to the Future got right &#8211; including video calls, flat-screen televisions, wearable technology and biometrics &#8211; nobody short of a billionaire villain type actually has a robotic butler that can bring them food at the push of a button. But if you live in London, you will soon be able to access the next best thing: dinner delivery via a six-wheeled droid.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-94617" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/food-droid-2-644x483.jpg" alt="food droid 2" width="644" height="483" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/MEWfsVPqKi4?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p><a href="https://www.starship.xyz">Starship Technologies</a>, which is run by two Skype co-founders, is partnering with London food delivery startups Just Eat and Pronto to send what essentially look like wheeled coolers through the streets, dropping off meals to customers within a 2-3 mile radius. Commercial tests will also be carried out in Dusseldorf, Germany, and in Starship’s home city of Tallinn, Estonia starting this month. This is on top of 5,000 miles of previous testing in places like Glastonbury, where the bots have “met over 400,000 people without a single accident,” but this is the first time they’ll be delivering food to actual paying customers. Starship is expected to announce rollouts in the U.S. in the coming months.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-94598 size-wide644" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/robot-food-delivery-2-644x388.jpg" width="644" height="388" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-94596" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/robot-food-delivery-4-644x429.jpg" alt="robot food delivery 4" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p>Is it really the next best thing to a robot butler, though? The first question that pops into many people’s heads when reading about this technology is whether somebody can just kick that self-driving droid around a little bit and steal your food for themselves. It’s a fair question. Starship says for these first test drives, the bots won’t be fully automatic &#8211; the company will monitor their progress remotely and take over if anything goes awry.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-94597" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/robot-food-delivery-3-644x434.jpg" alt="robot food delivery 3" width="644" height="434" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-94618" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/food-droid-644x483.jpg" alt="food droid" width="644" height="483" /></p>
<p>The zero-emissions delivery bots sense obstacles in their path and navigate around pedestrians, getting out of the way as necessary, as seen in the video above. Not just anyone can access what’s inside, either. The customer who ordered the food has to use an app on their phone to open it, ensuring that the robot doesn’t just roll up to somebody else who lives in your apartment building and give them your pad thai.</p>

    <p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16350" title="futuristic-tech-main" alt="futuristic-tech-main" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/futuristic-tech-main.jpg" width="468" height="400" /></p>
<p><!--wsa:gooold-->Invisible speakers, wireless electricity and games you can control with your brain: all of these things may sound like science fiction, but thanks to recent technological innovation, they’re officially within the realm of possibility – or even already available. Some improve quality of life while others are just plain fun, but all of these futuristic gadgets and technologies will knock your socks off with their brilliance.</p>
<h4><span id="more-16348"></span>Bionic Vision with Cybernetic Contact Lenses</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16351" title="bionic-vision" alt="bionic-vision" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/bionic-vision.jpg" width="468" height="520" /></p>
<p>What if contact lenses could not only help you see better, but deliver directions, news, email and weather reports directly to your eyes? The technology is already here, according to a report by Babak A. Parviz, a bionanotechnology expert at the University of Washington. Tiny components like <a href="http://gajitz.com/bionic-vision-cybernetic-lenses-with-heads-up-display/?utm_source=Mozilla%2F5.0+%28compatible%3B+Baiduspider%2F2.0%3B+%2Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.baidu.com%2Fsearch%2Fspider.html%29&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed-main-tags-futuristic-gadgets&utm_content=unknown&utm_term=feed-link">LED lights, tiny antennae and special circuits</a> can be embedded into the polymer of a typical contact lens. A small portable device would process the information, and the lenses could even be used to measure and process information about the user’s health.</p>
<h4>Miniscule Adjustick Cell Phone</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16352" title="adjustick-phone" alt="adjustick-phone" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/adjustick-phone.jpg" width="468" height="317" /></p>
<p>Cell phones are getting smaller and smaller, almost to the point of absurdity – but though this concept takes small size to the extreme, it’s also functional. The Adjustick was one of many <a href="http://gajitz.com/phone-home-8-crazy-futuristic-japanese-phone-concepts/?utm_source=Mozilla%2F5.0+%28compatible%3B+Baiduspider%2F2.0%3B+%2Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.baidu.com%2Fsearch%2Fspider.html%29&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed-main-tags-futuristic-gadgets&utm_content=unknown&utm_term=feed-link">futuristic cell phone concepts</a> shown at Japan’s CEATEC technology convention. The stick-like device projects a usable keyboard and screen when placed on its side.</p>
<h4>Games You Control with Your Brain</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16353" title="emotiv-mind-control-games-headset" alt="emotiv-mind-control-games-headset" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/emotiv-mind-control-games-headset.jpg" width="468" height="219" /></p>
<p>This <a href="http://gajitz.com/mind-games-four-games-you-control-with-your-brain/?utm_source=Mozilla%2F5.0+%28compatible%3B+Baiduspider%2F2.0%3B+%2Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.baidu.com%2Fsearch%2Fspider.html%29&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed-main-tags-futuristic-gadgets&utm_content=unknown&utm_term=feed-link">alien-looking headset</a> looks capable of doing some insidious things to your brain, but it’s actually a gaming headset by <a href="http://www.emotiv.com/ ">Emotiv</a> that allows you to play a variety of concentration-based games on a Windows PC. That’s right, it actually uses your brain waves to play the games in which you can push and pull boulders, levitate objects and perform other telekinesis-like actions. It works by matching certain brain activities – like concentrating or thinking about something in particular – with certain actions during a calibration that you perform before starting the game.</p>
<h4>Portable Gadget That Shoots You to Rooftops</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16354" title="batman-reverse-rapelling-gadget" alt="batman-reverse-rapelling-gadget" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/batman-reverse-rapelling-gadget.jpg" width="468" height="464" /></p>
<p>Anyone who has ever admired Batman’s ability to go from street level to the rooftop of a skyscraper in seconds will love the Atlas Rope Ascender, an awesome <a href="http://gajitz.com/batman-tech-portable-gadget-shoots-you-to-rooftops/?utm_source=Mozilla%2F5.0+%28compatible%3B+Baiduspider%2F2.0%3B+%2Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.baidu.com%2Fsearch%2Fspider.html%29&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed-main-tags-futuristic-gadgets&utm_content=unknown&utm_term=feed-link">reverse-rappelling portable gadget</a> that can lift a fully-outfitted soldier up to 600 feet at 10 ft/second on a single battery charge. The device has been tested by military, police and rescue organizations, who might have felt cool while using it, but probably lamented the lack of a cape.</p>
<h4>Flexible Customizable Laptop Concept</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16355" title="flexible-macbook-touch" alt="flexible-macbook-touch" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/flexible-macbook-touch.jpg" width="468" height="375" /></p>
<p>An eBook reader, full-size tablet, tabletop presentation screen, desktop computer and conventional laptop all in one… it might sound impossible, but designer <a href="http://tommasogecchelin.wordpress.com/ ">Tommaso Gecchelin’s MacBook Touch</a> does it all. Theoretically, that is – the integral part of the design that allows such flexibility, called the iSpine, relies on technology that doesn’t exist yet. But the<a href="http://gajitz.com/bend-it-like-macbook-flexible-customizable-laptop-concept/?utm_source=Mozilla%2F5.0+%28compatible%3B+Baiduspider%2F2.0%3B+%2Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.baidu.com%2Fsearch%2Fspider.html%29&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed-main-tags-futuristic-gadgets&utm_content=unknown&utm_term=feed-link"> idea has potential</a>, and it’s a tantalizing possibility for anyone who has ever daydreamed about such an achievement in multi-functionality.</p>
<h4>18-Button Computer Mouse</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16356" title="18-button-mouse" alt="18-button-mouse" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/18-button-mouse.jpg" width="468" height="365" /></p>
<p>If you wonder why on earth a computer mouse would need 18 buttons, perhaps the <a href="http://warmouse.com/">Warmouse OOMouse</a> isn’t for you. But those who see the potential of this <a href="http://gajitz.com/button-envy-18-button-mouse-kicks-your-mouses-butt/?utm_source=Mozilla%2F5.0+%28compatible%3B+Baiduspider%2F2.0%3B+%2Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.baidu.com%2Fsearch%2Fspider.html%29&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed-main-tags-futuristic-gadgets&utm_content=unknown&utm_term=feed-link">customizable little gadget</a> will be able to save a whole lot of time by packing tons of functions into the press of a button. It’s designed to be used with Open Office, but could also be used with other applications.</p>
<h4>Get Directions from a Rainwater-Powered Manhole</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16357" title="rainwater-powered-talking-manhole" alt="rainwater-powered-talking-manhole" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/rainwater-powered-talking-manhole.jpg" width="468" height="330" /></p>
<p>Wouldn’t it be nice if, when visiting a new city, you could simply get directions from a nearby urban object instead of unfolding and puzzling over a map? A concept called the EcoSign would turn ubiquitous manhole covers into <a href="http://gajitz.com/rainwater-powered-direction-giving-manhole-of-the-future/?utm_source=Mozilla%2F5.0+%28compatible%3B+Baiduspider%2F2.0%3B+%2Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.baidu.com%2Fsearch%2Fspider.html%29&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed-main-tags-futuristic-gadgets&utm_content=unknown&utm_term=feed-link">rainwater-powered information centers</a> that can give you directions. The only problem is, manhole covers tend to be in the middle of busy streets – not exactly safe places for tourists to congregate.</p>
<h4>Amoeba Cell Phone</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16358" title="amoeba-phone" alt="amoeba-phone" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/amoeba-phone.jpg" width="468" height="272" /></p>
<p>This strange little hunk of ergonomic plastic doesn’t resemble any cell phones currently in mainstream use, but its unusual design isn’t all about aesthetics. The <a href="http://gajitz.com/phone-home-8-crazy-futuristic-japanese-phone-concepts/?utm_source=Mozilla%2F5.0+%28compatible%3B+Baiduspider%2F2.0%3B+%2Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.baidu.com%2Fsearch%2Fspider.html%29&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed-main-tags-futuristic-gadgets&utm_content=unknown&utm_term=feed-link">Amoeba Phone</a> contours to the user’s face while in use, and its entire surface is a touch screen.</p>
<h4>Invisible Speakers</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16359" title="invisible-speakers" alt="invisible-speakers" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/invisible-speakers.jpg" width="468" height="198" /></p>
<p>Speakers are invariably ugly, and even tiny models that pack a big aural punch are just another object to clutter your living space. But an innovative <a href="http://gajitz.com/ditch-that-woofer-invisible-speakers-will-rock-your-world/?utm_source=Mozilla%2F5.0+%28compatible%3B+Baiduspider%2F2.0%3B+%2Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.baidu.com%2Fsearch%2Fspider.html%29&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed-main-tags-futuristic-gadgets&utm_content=unknown&utm_term=feed-link">new type of speaker</a> is virtually invisible, pouring surprisingly decent sound forth from a clear membrane across your television screen. Edge Motion invisible speakers work by using piezoelectric actuators to cause sound vibrations in the membrane, which don’t affect the picture quality. The technology is set to be included in a range of upcoming consumer products like hand-held games and portable DVD players.</p>
<h4>Prosthetic Limbs Powered by the Mind</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16360" title="mind-controlled-prosthetic-limbs" alt="mind-controlled-prosthetic-limbs" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/mind-controlled-prosthetic-limbs.jpg" width="468" height="345" /></p>
<p>Stiff plastic prosthetic limbs may help amputees feel whole again, but they don’t offer much in the way of independence. Luckily for Christian Kandlbauer, who lost both of his arms in a work accident in 2005, amazing <a href="http://gajitz.com/hands-on-tech-double-amputee-gets-mind-controlled-arms/?utm_source=Mozilla%2F5.0+%28compatible%3B+Baiduspider%2F2.0%3B+%2Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.baidu.com%2Fsearch%2Fspider.html%29&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed-main-tags-futuristic-gadgets&utm_content=unknown&utm_term=feed-link">new advances in prosthesis technology</a> have enabled him to do things for himself again – through the power of his mind. Kandlbauer is equipped with incredible new prosthetic arms that are wired to his nerves, a procedure that only three surgeons in the world can perform. Now, Kandlbauer can activate his “muscle” movement with impulses from his brain.</p>
<h4>Virtual Reality Treadmill</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16361" title="virtual-reality-treadmill" alt="virtual-reality-treadmill" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/virtual-reality-treadmill.jpg" width="468" height="312" /></p>
<p>One of the biggest challenges to making virtual reality a – well – reality, is locomotion. Anyone trying to navigate a VR environment needs to be able to walk in any direction, but treadmills only move in one direction. Until now. CyberCarpet is an <a href="http://gajitz.com/virtual-insanity-vr-treadmill-goes-in-every-direction/?utm_source=Mozilla%2F5.0+%28compatible%3B+Baiduspider%2F2.0%3B+%2Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.baidu.com%2Fsearch%2Fspider.html%29&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed-main-tags-futuristic-gadgets&utm_content=unknown&utm_term=feed-link">omni-directional treadmill</a> that densely packs small balls under a walking surface, letting the friction of the user’s shoes to do the moving. The CyberCarpet’s usefulness doesn’t end at gaming, though – it can be used for therapy, training and other applications as well.</p>
<h4>Alarm Clock Grades Your Sleep Quality</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16362" title="alarm-clock-grades-sleep-quality" alt="alarm-clock-grades-sleep-quality" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/alarm-clock-grades-sleep-quality.jpg" width="468" height="160" /></p>
<p>When it comes to your health, few things are quite as important as getting plenty of sleep. But the quality of your sleep is just as vital as the length of time that you spend in bed each night. A <a href="http://gajitz.com/nightly-news-alarm-clock-grades-your-sleep-quality/?utm_source=Mozilla%2F5.0+%28compatible%3B+Baiduspider%2F2.0%3B+%2Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.baidu.com%2Fsearch%2Fspider.html%29&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed-main-tags-futuristic-gadgets&utm_content=unknown&utm_term=feed-link">futuristic new alarm clock design</a> called the Zeo alarm clock tracks how much time you spend in each stage of sleep through a thin headband worn by the user, reporting your ‘sleep score’ in the morning. It even has a function that can wake you up at the ideal point in your sleep cycle, so you feel more refreshed.</p>
<h4>Bed with Built-In TV, Movie Screen &amp; Video Games</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16363" title="bed-built-in-tv" alt="bed-built-in-tv" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/bed-built-in-tv.jpg" width="468" height="328" /></p>
<p>Not only is the slick HiCan bed super cozy and modern, it’s also equipped with everything you need to spend the rest of your life as a media-consuming blob – or at least, be extremely entertained on sick days. This <a href="http://gajitz.com/futuristic-bed-with-built-in-tv-movie-screen-video-games/?utm_source=Mozilla%2F5.0+%28compatible%3B+Baiduspider%2F2.0%3B+%2Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.baidu.com%2Fsearch%2Fspider.html%29&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed-main-tags-futuristic-gadgets&utm_content=unknown&utm_term=feed-link">all-in-one bed and entertainment center</a> has a pull-down projection screen, integrated gaming system, built-in lights, and even a control panel that allows you to control your home’s window shades and lighting. The price tag of 42,000 Euro puts this amazing piece of furniture firmly in daydream territory for most.</p>
<h4>No Longer Sci-Fi: Wireless Electricity</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16364" title="wireless-electricity" alt="wireless-electricity" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/wireless-electricity.jpg" width="468" height="161" /></p>
<p>Imagine being able to place your electronics anywhere you want, with no regard to whether there’s a power outlet nearby. It would cut a whole lot of clutter and eliminate hazards to children, pets and clumsy adults. Somehow it seems like <a href="http://gajitz.com/cutting-the-cord-wireless-electricity-no-longer-sci-fi/?utm_source=Mozilla%2F5.0+%28compatible%3B+Baiduspider%2F2.0%3B+%2Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.baidu.com%2Fsearch%2Fspider.html%29&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed-main-tags-futuristic-gadgets&utm_content=unknown&utm_term=feed-link">wireless electricity</a> should already be a reality, but there have always been obstacles in the way. However, engineers at MIT  have worked out the kinks and wireless power could be in our homes as early as 2011.</p>
<h4>Cybernetic Reading Through Implanted Device</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16365" title="cybernetic-reading" alt="cybernetic-reading" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/cybernetic-reading.jpg" width="468" height="234" /></p>
<p>When you come across a word you aren’t familiar with, perhaps you just skip it over or go through the trouble of looking it up in a dictionary or online. Wouldn’t it be so much easier if you could just place your finger over the word and magically hear its definition and pronunciation in your ear? Incredible as it seems, the <a href="http://gajitz.com/info-at-your-fingertips-futuristic-cybernetic-reading/?utm_source=Mozilla%2F5.0+%28compatible%3B+Baiduspider%2F2.0%3B+%2Bhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.baidu.com%2Fsearch%2Fspider.html%29&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed-main-tags-futuristic-gadgets&utm_content=unknown&utm_term=feed-link">Touch Hear concept</a> would do just that, minus the magic part. An implanted device in the fingertip recognizes the characters while another device in the ear relays the information. It’s still just a concept, but it could be a viable future option – particularly for blind readers.</p>
