Shipping Container Fire Shelter, Australia

In the raging Australian bush fire of February, 2009 which has come to be known as Black Saturday, at least 173 people lost their lives. A family in Clonbinane survived the fires by taking refuge in their shipping container emergency shelter, which is nothing more than a steel cargo container embedded in the earth near their house. The shelter was outfitted with supplies in case of emergency and was a safe place for the family to wait out the incredibly destructive fires.
