<h4>Monster House by Christine McConnell<br />
<img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108220" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/monster-house-1-644x385.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="385" /></h4>

<p>Artist, photographer and baker <a href="https://www.instagram.com/christinehmcconnell/?hl=en">Christine McConnell</a>, who’s well known on Instagram for her creepy culinary creations, decided to transform her parents’ house for Halloween sing materials like foam core insulation boards, lighting and a fog machine. The result, ‘Monster House,’ is pretty incredible.</p>
<h4>Chiharu Shiota’s Tangled Webs<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108238" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/chiharu-shiota-1-644x430.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="430" /></h4>

<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/GolS9Db3BMM?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>Japanese-born, Berlin-based installation artist<a href="http://www.chiharu-shiota.com/en/"> Chiharu Shiota </a>stretches her web-like creations throughout gallery interiors and other structures, almost like a spider herself. The threads or hoses are woven into abstract networks and attached to objects in the room, like pianos and boats. In 2013, she completed a performance piece entitled ‘Earth and Blood’ reflecting a traumatic personal history of cancer and loss.</p>
<h4>Horror Vacui by David Zink Yi</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108210" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/horror-vacui-644x374.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="374" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108209" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/horror-vacui-2-644x429.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108208" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/horror-vacui-3-644x429.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p>A giant squid seems to have been unearthed fro the sea and left on a gallery floor to decompose in a puddle of putrid black liquid. This installation by <a href="https://midwayart.org/event/horror-vacui/">David Zink Yi</a>, entitled ‘Horror Vacui,’ is made of ceramic coated with copper and lead, the liquid consisting of ink and corn syrup.</p>
<h4>Giant Ant Infestations by Rafael Gómezbarros</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108213" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ants-gomezbarros-644x430.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108212" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ants-gomezbarros-2-644x408.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="408" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108211" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ants-gomezbarros-3-644x429.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p>If you’re creeped out by insect swarms, you might not want to see any of <a href="https://www.gomezbarros.com/">Rafael Gómezbarros</a>’ incredible oversized ant installations in person. Each one measures 20 inches in length. In an interview with <a href="https://en.artmediaagency.com/85051/conquering-the-world-one-ant-at-a-time-interview-with-rafael-gomezbarros/">Art Media Agency</a>, Gómezbarros explained, “Through the portrayal of this creature which generates so many positive processes in nature, I aim to create a reflection upon the reality in which we live, which is repeated throughout world history: the displacement of humanity and the resulting immigration, especially in the current era of globalisation.  For me, immigration is often the result of the internal problems within a country. The immigrant can be represented by the ant, which in turn embodies duality: positive energy that leads it to construct and create elsewhere is juxtaposed by the notion of infestation.”</p>
<h4>Ghosts in a Czech Church by Jakub Hadrava<br />
<img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108217" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ghost-church-644x325.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="325" /></h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108216" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ghost-church-2-644x362.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="362" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108215" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ghost-church-3-644x361.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="361" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108214" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ghost-church-4-644x430.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/3QJ8YvjQnfY?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>After part of the roof of St. George’s church in the Czech village of Lukova collapsed in the middle of a funeral service in 1968, locals believed the structure to be cursed, and left it to rot. Whether or not any real ghosts ever haunted its pews, it’s now filled with seriously spooky specters in the form of sculptural installations by local artist <a href="https://weburbanist.com/2015/09/11/ghost-church-creepy-statues-invade-abandoned-czech-chapel/">Jakub Hadrava.</a></p>

    <p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-23742" title="carole-epp-ceramics-1" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/carole-epp-ceramics-1.jpg" width="468" height="333" /></p>
<p><!--wsa:gooold-->Cutesy, feel-good figurines they&#8217;re not: one little girl has an eye gouged out, a boy is crucified on the golden McDonalds arches, and an anthropomorphized rabbit carries the severed head of a child. But <a href="http://web.mac.com/jordanepp/caroleepp.com/Sculpture.html?utm_source=Mozilla%2F5.0+AppleWebKit%2F537.36+%28KHTML%2C+like+Gecko%3B+compatible%3B+ClaudeBot%2F1.0%3B+%2Bclaudebot%40anthropic.com%29&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed-main-tags-creepy-art&utm_content=unknown&utm_term=feed-link">artist Carole Epp</a> isn&#8217;t looking to provide you with pretty little things to place on your mantel. Her fragile and diminutive works deal with issues like neuroses, stress and grief.<br />
<span id="more-23741"></span><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-23743" title="carole-epps-ceramics-2" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/carole-epps-ceramics-2.jpg" width="468" height="600" /></p>
<p><em>A Collection of Small Miseries</em> presents such serious subjects in a disarmingly innocent package – that is, until you get close enough to see the details. Working with both slip-casting and hand-building techniques, Epp creates memorable and sometimes shocking little tableaus, nearly always starring children regardless of the subject matter.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-23744" title="carole-epps-ceramics-3" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/carole-epps-ceramics-3.jpg" width="468" height="392" /></p>
<p>“Through bringing the overwhelming and devastating nature of war, terrorism, poverty, starvation, genetic technology, and environmental degradation back to a dialogue about the individual consumer, I felt that I could offer more positive outlooks for pro-active change in regards to the issues,” says the artist.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-23745" title="carole-epps-ceramics-4" alt="" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/carole-epps-ceramics-4.jpg" width="468" height="600" /></p>
<p>“I found that I could use the expectations of the medium and the collectible object as an accessible entry point into the work, allowing for a non-confrontational or disconcerting perspective on the subject matter. I wanted to both entice and repel; and inspire a desire to consume alongside an awareness of the consequences of that consumption.”</p>

    <p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-14366" title="gwon-osang-main" alt="gwon-osang-main" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/gwon-osang-main.jpg" width="468" height="500" /></p>
<p><!--wsa:gooold-->Unlike the human eye, the lens of a camera can’t judge spatial relationships, and photographs can only ever show a flat representation of a subject. But what happens when you take those flat, two-dimensional images and create <a href="http://www.thisblogrules.com/2009/10/hundreds-of-photographs-make-up-one-3d.html ">three-dimensional sculpture</a>?</p>
<p><span id="more-14365"></span></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-14367" title="gwon-osang-3" alt="gwon-osang-3" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/gwon-osang-3.jpg" width="468" height="303" /></p>
<p>South Korean artist <a href="http://osang.net">Gwon Osang</a> pioneered a new form of art called photographic sculpture with a series called ‘Deodorant Type’. For each sculpture, Gwon took hundreds of photographs of a single model and layered them over mannequins for a result that is sometimes true to the form of the model, and sometimes altogether different, veering into bizarre proportions.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-14368" title="gwon-osang-4" alt="gwon-osang-4" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/gwon-osang-4.jpg" width="468" height="600" /></p>
<p>Sometimes, the strangeness of the work reveals itself slowly, as you view one fragment at a time. But in others, the deviation from reality is evident – a man with two tiny heads on his shoulders, or two torsos attached to a single pelvis wrestling with each other.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-14369" title="gwon-osang-1" alt="gwon-osang-1" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/gwon-osang-1.jpg" width="468" height="398" /></p>
<p>As an art student, Gwon wanted to work in a medium that would be lightweight and easy to transport. He was experimenting with photography at the time and decided to blend the two, enjoying the way that the combination allowed him to form his subjects into unusual or downright impossible poses while maintaining that sheen of realism that the photos lend each sculpture.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-14370" title="gwon-osang-2" alt="gwon-osang-2" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/gwon-osang-2.jpg" width="468" height="534" /></p>
<p>“I often tell my acquaintances that I like the concept of ‘an artist sent from heaven’ or an artistic genius, but that I don&#8217;t believe in such,” Gwon said in <a href="http://osang.net/article/interview_en.html">an interview</a> with Arario Gallery curator Ju-hyeon Lee.</p>
<p>“I believe there are two types of people, those that really do not believe in the existence of a genius and the other, only denying the existence of a genius to be modest (where in reality, they believe they are the ‘genius’). I think I belong to the latter case. Not to brag that I&#8217;m a fabulous artist, but to show that I have a certain conviction in my work..’”</p>
