Murals with a Message: 23 Works of Statement-Making Street Art

ROA: Protection of Animals

“I wanted to draw attention to how they and many other species become a victim of hunting and pollution,” says prolific street artist ROA of his narwhal mural and other works with an environmental narrative. Though he seems to constantly be in the streets producing new works around the world, very little is known about the artist, and he has no official website.

Francesco Camillo Giorgino/MILLO: Never Give Up

The piece ‘Never Give Up’ by artist Millo depicts a little girl holding onto a heart-shaped tree trunk while surrounded by a black-and-white city. Though the tree trunk appears to be dead, a tiny green sprout springs up from its center. The piece was painted onto the side of a building in Santiago, Chile.

M-City

Polish artist M-City explores the environmental cost of industry in graphic form with this mural in Breda, The Netherlands.

Louis Masai: Save the Bees

“When we go, we’re taking you with us” says this mural by artist Louis Masai, one in a series created for a ‘Save the Bees’ day in Britain. Says the artist, “My recent documentation of endangered creatures and raising awareness of statistics has on occasion been associated with activism. I find this a bit daunting as I only see myself as an artist but I definitely see the power of visual language and I’m enjoying using that power via my murals and the modern world of social networking.”
