<p>KISS and its hustling frontman Gene Simmons continue to raise the rock <a href="https://weburbanist.com/2013/06/30/ziggurat-hat-deconstructing-the-devo-energy-dome/">music</a> merchandising bar, licensing thousands of products ranging from banal to <a href="https://weburbanist.com/2010/04/04/wet-and-wild-10-bizarre-public-water-fountains/">bizarre</a>.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-107788" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/KISS-products-1c-644x695.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="695" /></p>
<p>KISS my buns? Only if they&#8217;re KISS Super-Spicy Chili Tomato meat buns, because one would naturally expect KISS-branded steamed meat-filled buns to be&#8230; <em>Hotter Than Hell!</em> Partnering with Japan&#8217;s Circle K Sunkus convenience stores (strange things really are afoot at the Circle K) to promote KISS&#8217;s late-2013 Japanese concert tour, these frighteningly lava-like buns cost $1 each and were packaged in one of five collectible paper wrappers: one for each band member plus one more featuring the entire band.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-107789" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/KISS-products-1b-644x560.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="560" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-107790" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/KISS-products-1d-644x595.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="595" /></p>
<p>The buns are embossed with the well-known KISS logo and their odd grey coloration comes from edible bamboo charcoal. Inside, super-spicy habanero chilies add a fitting dose of demonic heat. Sorry, Red Hot Chili Peppers, looks like Gene Simmons &amp; Co stole your thunder. Kudos to <a href="https://en.rocketnews24.com/2013/10/16/kiss-spicy-steamed-meat-buns-are-hotter-than-hell/">Rocketnews24</a> for reporting on this weird but tasteful marketing gimmick.</p>
<h4>KISS Gene Simmons Inflatable Tongue</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-107793" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/KISS-products-2a-644x1094.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="1094" /></p>
<p>What&#8217;s cosplay without prosthetics and what&#8217;s a Gene Simmons Demon outfit without a <a href="http://www.electricdreaming.com/archives/1442">KISS Inflatable Tongue</a>? In fact, forget the cosplay and outfit, just go with the tongue &#8211; always a winning strategy (unless your name&#8217;s Harvey Weinstein).</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-107794" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/KISS-products-2b-644x362.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="362" /></p>
<p>This official KISS product supposedly inflates to 3 times its original size&#8230; think The Grinch but MUCH more disturbing. The package also bears a cautionary <em>&#8220;Warning: Choking Hazard&#8221;</em> blurb though were not sure if the user or the usee is at risk&#8230; maybe both. If you dare, check out <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCzat2Fs50s">this video</a> from Scott Vs Box as our hero, Scott, unboxes the tongue.</p>
<h4>KISS Matryoshka Nesting Dolls</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-107795" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/KISS-products-3a-644x584.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="584" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-107796" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/KISS-products-3b-644x584.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="584" /></p>
<p>Does Putin know about this? Never mind, he&#8217;s probably got an autographed set of his own. KISS Rock And Roll Nesting Dolls take the classic Russian Matryoshka concept to a very strange universe indeed. One wonders what goes through the minds of the aging babushkas employed to hand-craft these <em>&#8220;stunning glossy&#8221;</em> dolls, though it&#8217;s probably not the extended version of &#8220;Beth&#8221;. Offered by <a href="https://www.therussianstore.com/kiss-rock-and-roll-nesting-dolls.html">The Russianstore</a>, est. 1992 &#8211; just after the fall of communism. Thanks, Yeltsin.</p>
<h4>KISS Frozen Ice Bars</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-107797" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/KISS-products-4b-644x526.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="526" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-107798" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/KISS-products-4a-644x359.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="359" /></p>
<p>You&#8217;ll have to go all the way back to 1980 (and all the way to Australia, no less) to find <a href="http://www.everythingkiss.com/PartyAndDrinking/PartyAndDrinking/FoodAndDrink.html">KISS Ice Blocks</a>, <em>&#8220;a frozen thunderbolt of refreshing flavour&#8221;</em>. Manufactured by Peters Ice Cream, the <a href="http://www.gourmantic.com/2013/02/08/chur-burger-roosevelt-bar-diner-peters-kiss-thunderbolt-porch-bread-wine-parlour-byron-bay-pale-lager/">way-cool bars</a> did NOT feature the face of &#8220;Cat Man&#8221; Peter Criss, who had been fired from the band before KISS left for their hugely successful KISS Monster Tour of Australia and New Zealand.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-107800" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/KISS-products-4c-644x1027.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="1027" /></p>
<p>Instead of Cat-Man Criss, Eric &#8220;The Fox&#8221; Carr peers out from the 10-pack box. As for the ice bars themselves, they feature bands of frozen cola, raspberry and lemonade. Yum! Check out a make-up-free Paul and Gene plugging the bars in this short (1:22) <a href="https://youtu.be/dAMFKyAwfFk">official video</a> from Peters.</p>

    <p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/cat-house-main-644x481.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="481" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-104685" /></p>
<p>Are you one of the 3 billion people worldwide estimated to be infected with toxoplasmosis, the brain-controlling parasite passed onto humans by our feline overlords? This protozoa invades the host’s brain and makes it do things that are counterproductive to survival &#8211; and apparently good taste. How else would you explain <a href="https://www.coldwellbankerhomes.com/az/concho/669-county-road-8235-stanford/pid_18337473/">this Arizona real estate listing</a> for a dream home only a crazed cat mom could love? “If you love cats this is the home for you!” reads the Caldwell Banker description. “If not bring your sandblaster!”</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-104682" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/crazy-cat-house-1.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="" /></p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-104681" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/crazy-cat-house-2.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/YL8hUP7wqKA?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>The first important thing to note is that the former owners actually only had two cats. This isn’t an out-of-control animal hoarding situation. It’s just an extremely bonkers decorating scheme carried out by people who are really, really into cats. You might think &#8211; “So, what, they’ve got some built-in cat walkways and cat castles?”</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-104680" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/crazy-cat-house-3.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="" /></p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-104678" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/crazy-cat-house-5.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="" /></p>
<p>Oh, they’ve got those things, all right. Including a three-story Medieval cat castle made of stone. Upstairs, in what was apparently the cat overlords’ bedroom, every single surface is plastered with stuffed cats, photos of cats, oversized posters of cats, cat toys, cat houses, stockings full of cat treats. But that’s not all.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-104676" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/crazy-cat-house-7.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="" /></p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-104674" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/crazy-cat-house-9.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="" /></p>
<p>Continue going through the photos and you’ll see that the theme carries throughout the rest of the house. The kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedrooms are all similarly decorated (on top of log cabin wall surfaces painted a garish mix of colors.) There’s even a cat-shaped chandelier.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-104675" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/crazy-cat-house-8.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="" /></p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-104673" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/crazy-cat-house-10.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="" /></p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-104672" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/crazy-cat-house-12.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="" /></p>
<p>The 2,500-square-foot home is listed for $240,000, and it comes with 20 acres of land in the town of Concho, about 200 miles northeast of Phoenix. The town itself has a population of just 38. So really, what we’re looking at is the perfect place for mind-controlled cat slaves to establish their very own cat-worshipping compound. Or, you know, just a really great sanctuary for cats that need a safe and loving home.</p>

<p>Had Buffalo Bill escaped Clarice Starling and moved into a quaint suburban Connecticut home, his interior decor might have looked a little something like this. At <a href="http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/24-Brentwood-Dr-Avon-CT-06001/59011376_zpid/">24 Brentwood Drive</a>, an absolutely amazing color palette in shades of dried blood, glistening internal organs and Exorcist vomit green adorns every available surface in the form of hand-painted designs. And the best part is &#8211; all of this could be yours for just $339,900.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-97480" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/horror-house-1-644x483.jpg" alt="horror-house-1" width="644" height="483" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-97479" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/horror-house-2-644x483.jpg" alt="horror-house-2" width="644" height="483" /></p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-97476" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/horror-house-5.jpg" alt="horror-house-5" width="644" height="" /></p>
<p>Believe it or not, this is an actual real estate listing on Zillow.com, described by listing agent Ernie Rossi as a “unique one of a kind finishing completed by a professional!” The agents provide a full 51-photo tour on the site, showing off room after room filled with decoupaged stair rails, musty-looking floral curtains, decorative stamped paint in rust red and squiggly designs in shiny copper.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-97474" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/horror-house-7.jpg" alt="horror-house-7" width="644" height="" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-97473" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/horror-house-8-644x483.jpg" alt="horror-house-8" width="644" height="483" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-97472" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/horror-house-9-644x483.jpg" alt="horror-house-9" width="644" height="483" /></p>
<p>Naturally, the listing went viral on social media upon discovery, with people describing the interiors as “serial killer chic,” “deranged” and “a portal to hell.” The real estate agents told <a href="http://news.nationalpost.com/news/world/deranged-or-just-one-of-a-kind-house-with-bizarre-interior-decor-becomes-viral-star">The National Post </a>that the sellers are artists, and remain optimistic that someone out there will fall in love with their designs. The home has only had one interested party in thirty days online, however.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-97471" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/horror-house-10-644x483.jpg" alt="horror-house-10" width="644" height="483" /> \</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-97470" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/horror-house-11-644x483.jpg" alt="horror-house-11" width="644" height="483" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-97469" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/horror-house-12-644x483.jpg" alt="horror-house-12" width="644" height="483" /></p>
<p>Who knows &#8211; maybe it’s actually some kind of viral horror marketing for a horror movie or a Halloween attraction, given that it’s mid-October and the house is located near the ominously named Mount Horr and Secret Lake &#8211; but there are elements of the home that feel earnest. <a href="http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/24-Brentwood-Dr-Avon-CT-06001/59011376_zpid/">Check out the full listing</a> to decide for yourself.</p>

<p>You’ll never hear the phrase ‘all thumbs’ the same way again after looking at this real life Lego man complete with eyebrows, wrinkles and the biggest, weirdest thumb nails you’ve ever seen. Dubbed <a href="http://www.tested.com/art/makers/577745-tested-builds-real-life-lego-minifig-cosplay/">‘Creepyfig,’</a> this disturbingly fleshy cosplay project brings Lego mini figures into human scale and parades him around San Diego Comic-Con, where there are so many crazy things to look at, he barely gets a second glance from most adults before reaching the official Lego exhibit.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95051" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Screen-Shot-2016-08-01-at-4.07.31-PM-644x417.png" alt="Screen Shot 2016-08-01 at 4.07.31 PM" width="644" height="417" /></p>

<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/c7KYrPXvZSM?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>Artist Frank Ippolito created the mask and hands and donned the costume himself, getting a spirited reaction from kids who poked his head curiously and placed Lego bricks in his clumsily large hands. The head &#8211; complete with its characteristic peg &#8211; is made of 14 pounds of silicone and includes realistic details like dark eye circles and frown lines. In the video, Ippolito remarks that the eyes are difficult to see out of, but he completed the project in just a week, leaving no time for refinement. By the end of the day, sweat is literally pouring out of the silicone costume components.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95049" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Screen-Shot-2016-08-01-at-4.12.37-PM-644x399.png" alt="Screen Shot 2016-08-01 at 4.12.37 PM" width="644" height="399" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95048" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Screen-Shot-2016-08-01-at-4.13.31-PM-644x403.png" alt="Screen Shot 2016-08-01 at 4.13.31 PM" width="644" height="403" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/P2O7vyKnYfo?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>Created in collaboration with<a href="http://www.tested.com/art/makers/577745-tested-builds-real-life-lego-minifig-cosplay/"> Adam Savage’s Tested</a>, the Creepyfig set started out as a giant lump of hand-sculpted clay. Ippolito specializes in makeup for film and television, giving him the skills to nail those details (no pun intended.) See the whole process from start to finish in a second video, courtesy of Tested.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95044" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/real-life-lego-man-6-644x320.jpg" alt="real life lego man 6" width="644" height="320" /></p>
<p>Now, if only someone would make appropriately sized Lego bricks and accessories so we can see this project take a sharp left turn deeper into Uncanny Valley.</p>

<p>Lumps of modeling clay in shades that match human flesh are globbed into the hollows of what should be faces in this series of portraits mixing photography with sculpture. Artist <a href="https://www.behance.net/tombalobos">José Cardoso</a> gets under the viewer’s skin with visuals that disturb and fascinate, perhaps prompting some to reach up and ensure that their own faces are still intact after checking out the entire collection.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-91981" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/play-dough-people-4-468x704.jpg" alt="play dough people 4" width="468" height="704" /></p>

<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-91975" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/play-doh-people-10-468x704.jpg" alt="play doh people 10" width="468" height="704" /></p>

<p>Warped and distorted, with ragged edges, holes from poking fingers and glimpses of bone-like foreign objects embedded within, the Play-Doh takes the place of ordinary features, completely obscuring them or making it seem as if some careless child’s hand has ripped them away. There’s no hint of an attempt at modeling an actual representation of a face &#8211; just lumps. (The ones with bits of hair and dirt in the dough are especially cringe-worthy.)</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-91980" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/play-doh-people-5-468x704.jpg" alt="play doh people 5" width="468" height="704" /></p>

<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-91977" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/play-doh-people-8-468x704.jpg" alt="play doh people 8" width="468" height="704" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-91978" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/play-doh-people-7-468x704.jpg" alt="play doh people 7" width="468" height="704" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-91976" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/play-doh-people-9-468x703.jpg" alt="play doh people 9" width="468" height="703" /></p>
<p>The series is deliberately reminiscent of the special effects in old school horror movies, especially those of David Cronenberg, and it’s easy to see that influence here. As scary as they may have been at the time, when we look back at films like Naked Lunch, The Fly, Videodrome and Shivers we can see that they clearly made use of a whole lo to rubber and clay to achieve those gory effects. In comparison, Cardoso’s work is quite restrained, but its subtlety is startlingly effective.</p>
