<p>There wasn&#8217;t much room for cold feet in this high-flying marriage ceremony, vows for which were exchanged over a gaping void (complete with BASE-jumping flower girls).</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-110707" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/wedding-day-644x429.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p>Ryan Jenks and Kimberly Weglin were first engaged on a similar space net in the same place, then decided to keep up the tradition with the wedding. The brave pair also invited photographers <a href="http://thehearnes.com/">Abbi and Callen Hearnes</a> to document the event in a series of stunning photographs.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-110708" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/parachuters-644x429.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p>As the ceremony unfolded, friends of the couple performed aerial moves and walked across high lines. Flower girls packed thousands of pedestals into backpacks (alongside parachutes) before jumping off surrounding cliffs.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-110706" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/jump-lines-644x429.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p>Every year, a group of athletes and filmmakers called the Moab Monkeys come to the site to create a huge hand-knitted hammock to hang out in before taking their own brave leaps into the void.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-110704" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/slackline-644x430.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="430" /></p>

<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-110702" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/in-making-644x430.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="430" /></p>

<p>Their creations involve thousands of feet of colorful cordage, often designed to hope a dozen people or so and extending hundreds of feet over the canyon (with a hole in the middle for those looking to hop off and pop their chute, Brian Mosbaugh of <a title="Moab Monkeys' amazing hand-knitted hammock is suspended above a 400-foot-high canyon void" href="http://slacklinemedia.com/2014/12/03/a-new-era-of-aerial-space-net-adventure-is-born/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Slacklinemedia</a>). Also, be sure to check out more extreme wedding photos from <a href="http://thehearnes.com/#intro">The Hearnes</a> duo, who have shot in a lot of exotic locations.</p>

<p>As long as heights don&#8217;t make you queasy, you could enjoy one of the best meals of your life from as high as 1,350 feet above street level, gazing out onto bustling cities like Dubai, Tokyo, Toronto, Shanghai and Chicago. Or, take a higher altitude approach at a restaurant that&#8217;s not just tucked into a mountain range in France, but also located almost 9,000 feet above sea level. These dining establishments are the closest you&#8217;ll ever get to eating meals in the clouds, outside of an airplane (unless, of course, you&#8217;re an astronaut, in which case, congratulations.)</p>
<h4>Catch: Guangzhou International Finance Center, China</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100239" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/IFC-guangzhou-2-644x362.jpg" alt="ifc-guangzhou-2" width="644" height="362" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100238" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/IFC-quangzhou-3-644x245.jpg" alt="ifc-quangzhou-3" width="644" height="245" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100237" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/IFC-guangzhou-4-644x362.jpg" alt="ifc-guangzhou-4" width="644" height="362" /></p>
<p>100 floors above ground level in the Four Seasons Hotel at Guangzhou’s International Finance Center, seafood restaurant <a href="http://www.fourseasons.com/guangzhou/">‘Catch’</a> looks down onto the city from an astonishing 1,312 feet in the sky through floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The 103-story building is the 15th tallest in the world, and opened in 2010.</p>
<h4>At.Mosphere: Burj Khalifa, Dubai</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100274" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/atmosphere-dubai-644x483.jpg" alt="atmosphere-dubai" width="644" height="483" /></p>

<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100272" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/atmosphere-dubai-3-644x429.jpg" alt="atmosphere-dubai-3" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p>The highest restaurant in the world crowns the top of the tallest tower, the Burj Dubai. Located on the 122nd floor, <a href="http://www.atmosphereburjkhalifa.com">At.Mosphere</a> is a 200-seat French restaurant set 1,350 feet above the ground. From your dining table, you can watch the frenetic pace of Dubai life or get a bird’s eye view of various ongoing construction projects.</p>
<h4>Top of the World: Stratosphere Hotel and Tower, Las Vegas</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100271" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/top-of-the-world-vegas-1-644x362.jpg" alt="top-of-the-world-vegas-1" width="644" height="362" /></p>

<p>800 feet above the Las Vegas Strip, <a href="http://www.topoftheworldlv.com">‘Top of the World’</a> is tucked into the highest floor of the Stratosphere Casino, Hotel &amp; Tower and revolves 360 degrees every 80 minutes.</p>
<h4>Club Jin Mao: Grand Hyatt, Shanghai</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100268" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/club-jin-mao-1-644x363.jpg" alt="club-jin-mao-1" width="644" height="363" /></p>

<p>Gaze out at the Shanghai skyline from an unusual angle at<a href="https://shanghai.grand.hyatt.com/en/hotel/dining/ClubJinMao.html"> Club Jin Mao</a>, a showcase of classic Shanghainese cuisine on the 86th floor of the Jin Mao Tower at Grand Hyatt Shanghai. There’s seating for up to 40 guests, and six private rooms.</p>
<h4>The Metropolitan Club: Willis Tower, Chicago</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100265" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/metropolitan-club-644x428.jpg" alt="metropolitan-club" width="644" height="428" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100264" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/metropolitan-club-2-644x275.jpg" alt="metropolitan-club-2" width="644" height="275" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100263" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/willis-tower-2-644x429.jpg" alt="willis-tower-2" width="644" height="429" /></p>

<p>Chicago is actually packed full of sky-high restaurants, many notable enough to make it onto lists of the world’s highest. That means there are plenty of opportunities to dine with an amazing view of the city, the Chicago River or Lake Michigan. <a href="http://www.clubcorp.com/Clubs/Metropolitan-Club/">The Metropolitan Club</a> is a classic, located on the 66th and 67th floors of the famous Willis Tower (which has 110 stories in total.) The Club has long been open to members only, but recently invited the public to dine as well.</p>

<p><span style="color: #222222;">Created by French architect Axel de Stampa, Architecture Animée inverts our expectation of solid structures (with people moving past and through them), instead creating a static backdrop and fixed surroundings against which iconic buildings come to life.</span></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-67959" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/architecture-animation-estudio-spinning.gif" alt="architecture animation estudio spinning" width="468" height="464" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-67956" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/architecture-animation-tetris-blocks.gif" alt="architecture animation tetris blocks" width="468" height="455" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #222222;">Each work ends up looking (abstractly) like an extension of the original architectural intent or some sort of motion implied within it, such as the above game of god-scaled Tetris that seems to play out in realtime.</span></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-67958" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/architecture-animation-deconstructed-facade.gif" alt="architecture animation deconstructed facade" width="468" height="422" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-67957" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/architecture-animation-la-morphosis.gif" alt="architecture animation la morphosis" width="468" height="334" /></p>
<p>This initial set shown here was created as part of <a href="http://www.1week1project.org/2014/05/19/architecture-animee/">1Week1Project</a>, organized by Ecole d&#8217;Architecture de Paris-Belleville graduate Sylvain Macaux to generate 52 spontaneous architecture projects over the space of a year (with over 25 completed to date).</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-67962" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/architecture-animated-absolute-towers-mad.gif" alt="architecture animated absolute towers mad" width="468" height="782" /></p>
<p>Structures subject to these whimsical deconstructions include the following: Vitrahaus by Herzog &amp; de Meuron, Memory Museum by Estudio America, Theatre Agora by UNStudio, Emerson College Los Angeles by Morphosis, Mirador Building by MVRDV and Blanca Lleo, Americas Cup Building by David Chipperfield, New Museum by SANAA, Absolute Towers by MAD.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-67961" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/architecture-animation-building-deconstruction.gif" alt="architecture animation building deconstruction" width="468" height="701" /></p>
<p>Spinning, twisting and deforming, the pieces play on something intrinsic to each subject &#8211; almost as much a natural extension as an artistic interpretation. Participating photographers include: Nicolas Saieh, Christian Richters, Iwan Baan, Luis Garcia, James Ewing and Tom Arban with more yet to come.</p>

<p>Created by <a href="http://www.heimplanet.com/">Heimplanet</a>, the Maverick grew out of a previous iteration, The Cave, which was similarly structured, eschewing solid poles in favor of an impressive custom airbeam system.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-67669" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/inflatable-tent-design-detail-468x302.jpg" alt="inflatable tent design detail" width="468" height="302" /></p>
<p>Made to withstand winds of over 100 miles per hour, each section of the all-weather Maverick can be separated from the next chamber when deployed. As a result, the entire structure can be inflated at once but a failure in one segment does not cause the deflation of the whole.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-67668" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/inflatable-tent-interior-468x302.jpg" alt="inflatable tent interior" width="468" height="302" /></p>

<p>More about the materials: <em>&#8220;The airbeams are built with a resistant double-layer construction: an extra airtight TPU (thermoplastic urethane) bladder keeps the air inside for a long time. An outer jacket made of a high-tenacity polyester fabric ensures extra stability, protection and durability.&#8221;</em></p>

<p>Commissioned by the family of the fallen and designed by <a title="Posts tagged with Giovanni Pesamosca Architetto" href="http://www.archdaily.com/tag/giovanni-pesamosca-architetto/" rel="tag">Giovanni Pesamosca Architetto</a> (images by Flavio Pesamosca), the building was made to honor Luca Vuerich, who perished in an avalanche while climbing a frozen waterfall.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" alt="mountaineer retreat construction helicopter" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/mountaineer-retreat-construction-helicopter.jpg" width="468" height="462" /></p>
<p>Thanks to the efforts of family, friends, colleagues and mountain rescue volunteers (twelve people in total), the shell was constructed on site in a single day from pre-marked parts deposited by helicopter.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" alt="mountain cabin entry side" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/mountain-cabin-entry-side.jpg" width="468" height="403" /></p>

<p>The triangular structure is shaped to shed snow but built capable of being covered entirely as well, with access on its south side where the sun melts accumulation the fastest.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" alt="mountain retreat edge" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/mountain-retreat-edge-468x552.jpg" width="468" height="552" /></p>
<p>The wooden truss-reinforced frame is made to withstand high wind loads as well due to its exposed location, and set up on a series of concrete footings.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" alt="mountain tent retreat alps" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/mountain-tent-retreat-alps.jpg" width="468" height="288" /></p>

<p>The interior sports nine beds for hikers and mountain climbers, which might look spartan to the outside observer but are strikingly luxurious when you consider their remote location.</p>

<p>Open to anyone who can get there, the building is located in the Julian Alps, on the crest of the Foronon Buinz Mountain along the Ceria-Merlone trail.</p>
