    <p><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108682" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/rinspeed-644x233.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="233" /></p>
<p>A couple decades from now, we’ll be able to summon autonomous shared vehicles both from our smartphones and from privately owned steering wheels that double as AI companions in the home, clicking into place when the car arrives. In this imagined future, ride sharing and car sharing makes higher quality vehicles more accessible to a broader range of people, requiring luxury automakers to get a lot more imaginative in order to stay relevant &#8211; like creating Bentley SUVs with snow tracks. Plus, driverless tech means cars could become more comfortable, home-like environments, with cozy lighting and built-in gardens.</p>
<h4>Mobuno Unit</h4>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108699" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/mobuno-644x424.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="424" /></p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108698" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/mobuno-2-644x363.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="363" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108697" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/mobuno-3-644x363.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="363" /></p>
<p>Designed with car sharing in mind, the<a href="http://xoio.de/en/mobuno-urban-mobility-concept/"> Mobuno Unit by Xoio </a>and the Institute of Urban Mobility is sort of like a train of autonomous smart cars that can group large parties together for efficiency or break off to pick up new passengers or take them to specific destinations. They’re extremely compact for easy urban parking, accessible via smart phone and able to squeeze tightly together. It’s not clear how the very low-riding body shape with enclosed tires would deal with inclines and bumps, and they’re certainly a bit strange looking.</p>
<h4>Deep Orange 7 Mini Concept Car</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108696" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/deep-orange-concept-car-644x483.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="483" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108695" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/deep-orange-2-644x483.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="483" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108694" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/deep-orange-3-644x472.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="472" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108693" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/deep-orange-4-644x363.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="363" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/8lJ1BJLh-yk?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>Developed and actually built by a team of students at Clemson University in South Carolina, the<a href="http://cuicardeeporange.com/project/do7/"> Deep Orange 7</a> Mini concept car combines all of the traits the team expect to be desirable in personal vehicles in the year 2025 and beyond. That includes an open design with a floating dashboard, a one-piece windshield and hood, and a personalized electronic display controlled by gesture that replaces the typical static instrument cluster.</p>
<h4>‘The Float’ Autonomous Car of the Future by Yuchen Car</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108692" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/renault-644x472.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="472" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108691" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/renault-2-644x362.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="362" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/7GER5yOZca8?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>Bulbous, hovering in air and ‘non-directional,’ this <a href="https://www.slashgear.com/renault-names-the-float-as-the-winner-of-car-of-the-future-design-contest-27501849/">autonomous car of the future</a> is a concept designed by student Yuchen Chai at Central Saint Martins, the winning entry in a competition judged by Renault. The idea is that the car is more open to the outside environment rather than feeling like a private pod for enhanced social connection. It’s made of transparent glass and uses magnetic levitation so it looks like a bubble while in transit. It can move in any direction without needing to turn around, and multiple units can gather together. It’s also got sliding doors, rotating seats and the ability to change the opacity of the glass when desired. Of course, this concept isn’t exactly street-ready, but the idea is to radically re-envision what cars can look like.</p>
<h4>Future-Type Jaguar Concept</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108690" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/jaguar-future-type-644x472.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="472" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108689" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/jaguar-future-type-2-644x429.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-108688 size-wide644" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/jaguar-future-type-3-644x433.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="433" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/mTLQeVVrklU?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>Another look at a future in which anyone can summon a fully-charged autonomous electric vehicle on demand, the <a href="https://www.designboom.com/technology/jaguar-future-type-concept-09-07-2017/">‘Future-Type’ concept car by Jaguar</a> has one particularly unusual feature: a removable steering wheel with voice -activated artificial intelligence. It’s this steering wheel, rather than a smartphone, that you use to call a car &#8211; because that’s the only part of the car you need to own. It performs the usual Alexa-type functions like playing music, booking a reservation or integrating into smart home systems. When the car arrives, you take the steering wheel with you, plug it in and the car whisks you away.</p>

<p>Who needs a garage when your autonomous vehicle could simply pull up into a port inside your home and seamlessly integrate itself with the interior? Hyundai wants to give us all another reason to spend hours inside our cars by effectively turning them into furniture when they’re not in use. Its ‘Mobility Vision’ concept, unveiled at this year’s CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, blurs the lines between architecture and automobiles more than ever.</p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/b_wRCJ-AQeE?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100149" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/mobility-vision-2-644x338.jpg" alt="mobility-vision-2" width="644" height="338" /></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The driverless car essentially plugs into the house when you’re done with a trip, and then the driver’s seat, which is mounted on a pivoting arm, can slide right into the living space for use as a chair. The idea is never having to stop what you’re doing and metaphorically shift gears between travel time and home time; stuff you leave in the car is easily accessible, babies can continue sleeping in their carseats, and there’s no fumbling for keys.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-100148 size-wide644" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/mobility-vision-3-644x429.jpg" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100147" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/mobility-vision-4-644x397.jpg" alt="mobility-vision-4" width="644" height="397" /></p>
<p>A single door, almost the height and width of the entire car, opens upward to delineate the space between the car’s interior and the living room. You can even run the car’s heat or air conditioning to adjust the temperature of your house, and use the car stereo to play music at home. Perhaps the most important detail: the car is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, so it’s quiet, and there’s no danger of breathing unhealthy fumes.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100151" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/mobility-vision-7-644x430.jpg" alt="mobility-vision-7" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-100152" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/mobility-vision-6-644x430.jpg" alt="mobility-vision-6" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p>It’s just a concept, and not likely to become a reality anytime soon &#8211; but could it be a glimpse into what mobility will look like in the not-so-distant future? It seems entirely possible, but it’s not clear how many people want to just sit around in their cars for no reason when there’s probably a perfectly good couch just a few feet away.</p>

<p>Mere fantasy rides for most of us, the world’s most luxurious high-performance supercars take all the elements that make driving a vehicle pleasurable and ramp them up about 10 levels, from advanced surround-sound to wildly powerful engines. A number of opulent luxury automobile creations debuted this August at car shows around the world, including limited editions, custom-painted showcases and other elite motor vehicles accessible only to the rich and famous.</p>
<h4>Agera RS by Koenigsegg</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95705" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/agera-1-644x268.jpg" alt="agera 1" width="644" height="268" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95704" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/agera-2-644x473.jpg" alt="agera 2" width="644" height="473" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95703" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/agera-3-644x430.jpg" alt="agera 3" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95702" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/agera-4-644x430.jpg" alt="agera 4" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/03l5WvvyQGM?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>Billed as the world’s first ‘megacar,’ the <a href="http://koenigsegg.com">Koenigsegg Agera RS </a>(with a single, one-of-a-kind ‘XS’ version located in the United States) is set to become one of the most powerful street-legal production cars on American roads and features a lightweight removable hardtop that stows away under the front hood. It features a 5-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine and a CIMA 7-speed paddle-shift transmission and weighs just 3075 pounds.</p>
<h4>McLaren 570GT MSO Concept</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95701" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/mclaren-1-644x472.jpg" alt="mclaren 1" width="644" height="472" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95700" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/maclaren-2-644x429.jpg" alt="maclaren 2" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95699" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/mclaren-3-644x429.jpg" alt="mclaren 3" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95698" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/mclaren-4-644x429.jpg" alt="mclaren 4" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/N-1UykYA8pE?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>The <a href="http://cars.mclaren.com/sports-series/570gt/overview">570GT MSO concept by McLaren</a> aims to be the “ultimate sports car experience that’s perfect for daily use, longer journeys and weekends away,” with a rear-opening glass hatch, panoramic roof and leather-trimmed touring deck. Its exhaust system is made from titanium to be 30% lighter than a standard stainless steel system and for a richer tone, with visible heat shields that change color as the system heats and cools. An integrated 12-speaker surround-sound system provides a top-of-the-line aural experience while driving.</p>
<h4>McLaren 650s Spider</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95697" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/spider-1-644x358.jpg" alt="spider 1" width="644" height="358" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95696" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/spider-2-644x429.jpg" alt="spider 2" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95695" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/spider-4-644x872.jpg" alt="spider 4" width="644" height="872" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/EvsG0zXnLN4?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>A <a href="http://cars.mclaren.com/650S-spider">convertible version</a> of the luxury automaker’s 650s is an open-top super car that reaches 62mph in 3 seconds and a top speed of 204 miles per gallon, all while getting 24.2 miles to the gallon. Door blades direct air to the front splitter to enhance cornering grip and balance. The convertible handles and rides just like the coupe version of the 650s, and its retractible hard top and roof mechanism can automatically raise or lower in less than 17 seconds.</p>
<h4>Pagani Huayra BC</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95694" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/pagani-1-644x291.jpg" alt="pagani 1" width="644" height="291" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95693" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/pagani-2-644x291.jpg" alt="pagani 2" width="644" height="291" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95692" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/pagani-4-644x469.jpg" alt="pagani 4" width="644" height="469" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-95691" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/pagani-3-644x430.jpg" alt="pagani 3" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/PfjcgcOfgww?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>The lightest supercar yet to be built weighs in at 2,685 pounds ( a full thousand pounds lighter than the Porsche 918) thanks to its carbon fiber and titanium construction. The $2.6 million dollar<a href="http://www.pagani.com/huayra/huayra_bc/default.aspx"> Pagani Huayra</a> features 789 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque with 75 millisecond shifts. A large back wing, front splitter and new body panels update the latest Huayra from previous versions; only 20 will ever be produced.</p>

<p>Batman’s motorcycle in The Dark Knight Rises was cool and all, but the BMW Titan concept actually looks like a better fit for the caped crusader (albeit lacking in weaponry.) Turkish designer <a href="https://www.behance.net/dodoreis">Mehmet Erdem</a> actually took inspiration for the Titan from the sleek profile of a shark, with fins along the sides, a front wheel hidden within the body, and an exposed back wheel echoing the shape of a tail.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-94869" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/bmw-titan-2-644x429.jpg" alt="bmw titan 2" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p>The design is envisioned as a competitive vehicle for ‘Speed Week’ at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, in which land speed racers show off just how fast their racing vehicles of all shapes and sizes can go. The pale, glittering natural surfaces of the flats offer a dramatic setting for annual races and has seen a number of records set, with some vehicles reaching top speeds of over 600 miles per hour.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-94868" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/bmw-titan-main-644x430.jpg" alt="bmw titan main" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p>The Titan is one of seven BMW motorcycle concepts created by the Istanbul-based designer in addition to creations inspired by Alpha Romeo, Mercedes Benz, Maserati and other automotive brands. Each one reflects the aesthetics of the brand, but elevating them to a place that’s bolder and more futuristic.</p>

    <p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-88085" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/future-cars-main-468x263.jpg" alt="future cars main" width="468" height="263" /><br />
Within fifteen years we could be zooming around in flying passenger drones and self-driving luxury pods, and claiming packages from driverless delivery trucks that verify our identities by scanning our faces. At least, that&#8217;s what Mercedes-Benz, BMW and other automakers and designers seem to be hoping with these optimistically futuristic concept car designs &#8211; and while it might realistically take a lot longer than that to see real, functioning flying cars, some seemingly far-out ideas are already on their way.</p>
<h4>Passenger Drone<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-88063" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/future-cars-passenger-drone-468x278.png" alt="future cars passenger drone" width="468" height="278" /></h4>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/_vGd1Oy7Cw0?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>As if the idea of self-driving cars on the roads weren’t already nerve-wracking enough, soon passengers might be able to take to the skies without a pilot onboard. A Chinese startup called Ehang unveiled the world’s first passenger done, an <a href="http://arstechnica.com/business/2016/01/chinese-company-unveils-worlds-first-passenger-drone-at-ces/">Autonomous Aerial Vehicle</a> that can carry one person and a single backpack for about twenty minutes from one location to another, with the destination set via tablet before takeoff. The 440-pound drone folds up its propellers to fit within a standard parking spot. What happens if something malfunctions? The company says the drone can still fly with a propeller out, and will land in the nearest possible area if anything goes wrong.</p>
<h4>Self-Driving Chevrolet-FNR<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-88091" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/future-cars-chevrolet-FNR-1-468x263.jpg" alt="future cars chevrolet FNR 1" width="468" height="263" /></h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-88090" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/future-cars-chevrolet-FNR-2-468x263.jpg" alt="future cars chevrolet FNR 2" width="468" height="263" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-88089" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/future-cars-chevrolet-FNR-3-468x264.jpg" alt="future cars chevrolet FNR 3" width="468" height="264" /></p>
<p>A world away from Google’s dorky self-driving bubble car, the <a href="http://www.wired.com/2015/04/chevrolet-fnr-autonomous-vehicle/">Chevrolet-FNR by GM</a> envisions the autonomous commuting future circa 2030. The front seats rotate to face the rear, and the interior is packed full of touch-screens, with iris-recognition entry, crystal laser lights and “magnetic hubbies wheel electric motors.” The “dragonfly dual-wing doors” are so sharp, they look dangerous.</p>
<h4>Mercedes-Benz F 015</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-88088 size-large" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/future-cars-mercedes-F015-468x351.jpg" alt="" width="468" height="351" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-88087 size-large" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/future-cars-mercedes-F015-2-468x351.jpg" alt="" width="468" height="351" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-88086 size-large" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/future-cars-mercedes-F015-3-468x351.jpg" alt="" width="468" height="351" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/IWB4xj7EILg?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>While the FNR isn’t exactly ready to actually hit the road, the similarly driverless <a href="https://www.mercedes-benz.com/en/mercedes-benz/innovation/research-vehicle-f-015-luxury-in-motion/">Mercedes-Benz F 015</a> is already <a href="http://www.wired.com/2015/03/mercedes-benz-f-015-autonomous-car/#slide-x">roaming San Francisco</a>. This sleek and shiny luxury pod is part of Mercedes’ vision for a safer future in which all cars are unmanned, automatically stop to let pedestrians cross the road, and let all passengers read, text, surf the web or whatever it is humans will be doing on gadgets in 2030. The company still has a long way to go in ironing out the tech involved in this project, but the proof of concept is impressive.</p>
<h4>Self-Driving IDEO<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-88074" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/future-cars-ideo-468x312.jpg" alt="future cars ideo" width="468" height="312" /></h4>
<p>The first of three self-driving vehicle concepts by global design company <a href="http://www.wired.com/2014/11/ideo-imagines-self-driving-cars/#slide-1">IDEO</a> interacts with your email, calendar and text messages to set your route and senses when you’re 200 feet away, firing up and preparing for your ride. As you head down the freeway, your car will link up with other cars moving in the same direction, joining a ‘platoon’ of tailgating vehicles for speed and safety.</p>
<h4>WorkOnWheels Commuting Workspace Pod<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-88076" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/future-cars-workonwheels-468x312.jpg" alt="future cars workonwheels" width="468" height="312" /></h4>
<p>IDEO’s second concept is <a href="http://www.wired.com/2014/11/ideo-imagines-self-driving-cars/">WorkOnWheels</a>, a transparent mobile office pod that zooms around the city, either acting as an automated place to complete tasks while you’re on your way to your workplace or zooming to the scenic setting of your choice. You can take your team on a brainstorming session by the sea, park in a bustling urban spot to observe city life or whatever else you can dream up. The pods are rentable by the hour and drive themselves back to their home base to recharge when you’re done.</p>
