Urban Street Art Images in Miniature: The Little People of London

I Cant Actually Graffiti

Slinkachu is at it again, adding his innovative flair to the world of creative urban street art. These photographs, taken around town in London and even shown in galleries, are just a small portion of his “little people” collection. Other works are available for purchase and have been featured in books and periodicals.

One False Move

Though some of his work has been displayed at art shows, much of it slips quietly into urban landscapes. The juxtaposition of closeup photographs and faraway images shows just how small these little street art people truly are against the backdrop of a larger city.

Small Gods and In The Rough

Some installations play off their backdrops and explore larger themes, like the Little Gods to the left. Others are simply offbeat and humorous, such as From The Rough to right, showing small golfers making a go of swinging in a veritable forest of grass.

Urban Camping Street Art

One has to wonder: do people passing by notice these installations, and does it cause them to consider issues beyond the simple and beautiful ingenuity? The above display of urban camping might conjure images of potentially creative homeless shelters and other forms of nomadic urban dwelling. Still, whether these are merely clever or deeply thought-provoking is, of course, a subjective judgment.

Nuart Art Show

This more recent work was done for the Nuart show really takes on that ever-difficult issue of what to do with urban art when it is taken from the street and placed in a gallery setting. The above solution seems a playfully appropriate one, colliding a minor incident in the larger “real world” gallery setting with catastrophic and gruesome consequences in the fantastic world of the “little people.”

I saw these on display while browsing StumbleUpon the other day, where the page implied it was just another ‘lolcat’ phenomenon.

Thank you for actually explaining it in detail and showing me the artist’s and other related websites. I think the artist is brilliant in how he presents life sized objects causing disruption for those small characters.

Great work!

I always wondered how our actions affect the smaller creatures, like insects or even smaller organisms.

The last set of photos really describes some portion of that. Like there’s a universe same like our universe, but on a smaller scale.
