<p>Life&#8217;s stressful enough without our stress <a href="https://weburbanist.com/2018/01/21/what-a-dump-15-out-standing-porta-potties/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">relief</a> balls freaking us out yet the more we squeeze these creepy <a href="https://weburbanist.com/2012/04/22/global-kneads-15-earth-stress-reliever-ball-designs/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">stress aids</a>, the more anxious we get.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-111638" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/stress-balls-1b-644x498.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="498" /></p>
<p><a href="https://www.geheimshop.de/cao-maru-anti-stress-ball">Caomaru</a> means &#8220;round face&#8221; in Japanese, and these pliable polyurethane resin <a href="https://www.geheimshop.de/cao-maru-anti-stress-ball">stress relief balls</a> come in four different molded expressions. If you&#8217;ve ever wanted to go full Kids In The Hall&#8217;s <a href="https://youtu.be/PM5_dgKDsrc">&#8220;Head Crusher&#8221;</a> (or &#8220;Face Pincher&#8221; if you prefer) with an actual crushable/pinchable head/face, Caomaru is the stress relief ball for you!</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-111639" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/stress-balls-1c-644x430.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-111640" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/stress-balls-1d-644x598.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="598" /></p>
<p><a href="http://www.aeco.life/caomaru-stress-ball">Caomaru</a> comes in a variety of pastel hues including black and beige (for you equal-opportunity haters), and they clean up easily with a little soap and water. You&#8217;ll never scrub the stains off your soul, however.</p>
<h4>The Terrible Horriball</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-111645" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/stress-balls-2a-644x593.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="593" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-111646" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/stress-balls-2b-644x580.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="580" /></p>
<p>They say conquering anxiety is all about facing one&#8217;s fears&#8230; said whomever thought up the Horriball. <em>&#8220;When your victim gives this seemingly innocent stress ball a squeeze,&#8221;</em> according to <a href="https://www.thegreenhead.com/search/horriball/">The Greenhead</a>, <em>&#8220;clear bubbles filled with flies, rats, worms, or cockroaches covered in a bloody-looking liquid pop out of the holes!&#8221;</em> Yeah, we&#8217;ll just keep our anxiety and leave now, mmkay?</p>
<h4>Weakened At Bernie&#8217;s</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-111635" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/stress-balls-3b-644x483.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="483" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-111636" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/stress-balls-3c-644x483.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="483" /></p>
<p>Aww, isn&#8217;t that cute, DC Universe character Harley Quinn has a cuddly taxidermied and possibly zombified beaver named <a href="http://www.actionfigurebarbecue.com/2017/05/action-figure-review-traditional-harley.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Bernie</a> who speaks only to her&#8230; don&#8217;t you want one too? You might change your mind after getting up close &amp; personal with the sticky icky Bernie “action figure”, part of the Designer Series from DC Collectibles.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-111634" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/stress-balls-3a-644x766.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="766" /></p>
<p>This Bernie figure doesn&#8217;t talk but he does have one distinct talent, if you can call it that: when squeezed, a bloated bubble of guts <a href="https://nerdist.com/dc-harley-queen-designer-series-figures-and-speech/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">bulges out</a> from his mangled midriff. Relax your now-trembling fingers and the freaky fistula retreats back inside Bernie&#8217;s belly. Rinse, repeat, see a psychologist.</p>

<p>Santa Claus is coming to town&#8230; consider yourself warned! These <a href="https://weburbanist.com/2016/12/04/santa-claustrophobia-the-worlds-creepiest-santa-statues/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">creepy Santa statues</a> hail not from the North Pole but somewhere much, MUCH further south.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-109673" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/more-scary-santas-1b-644x362.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="362" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-109674" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/more-scary-santas-1c-644x359.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="359" /></p>
<p>Talk about <em>Lost in Translation</em>&#8230; this <a href="http://www.cnn.com/travel/article/christmas- santa-marilyn-monroe/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">huge inflatable statue</a> erected outside a shopping mall in Taiyuan, China, is a bizarre mashup of Old Saint Nick, Marilyn Monroe from The Seven Year Itch, and Eartha Kitt singing Santa Baby. <em>Why would you do that, China?</em> Even worse, this weird interpretation of Santa Claus seems to be the norm over in the Middle Kingdom &#8211; we showcased a similar bizarre blow-up blown-up-skirted Santa from Dongguan in <a href="https://weburbanist.com/2016/12/04/santa-claustrophobia-the-worlds-creepiest-santa-statues/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">our 2016 look</a> at creepy Santa statues.</p>
<h4>Crepes You Out</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-109675" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/more-scary-santas-2a-644x643.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="643" /></p>
<p>Umm, yeah, suddenly we&#8217;ve lost our appetite and this creepy crepe-y Santa is to blame. Flickr member Bronwen (<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/bellybuttongirl/33055791612/">bellybutton girl</a>) captured this not-so-jolly Man with All the Toys in all his glowering glory last year at Birmingham, UK&#8217;s annual Christmas Market. Wonder who&#8217;s crepe-ing down your chimney this year&#8230;</p>
<h4>He Seize You&#8230;</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-109678" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/more-scary-santas-3a-644x969.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="969" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-109679" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/more-scary-santas-3b-644x530.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="530" /></p>
<p>The reindeer appear to have left poor Santa stranded&#8230; wouldn&#8217;t you? This spooky Santa sports bugged-out eyes, flaring nostrils and an oversized mitten-clad hand reaching out to grab you by the throat. Wow, you must have been REALLY naughty this year and Santa knows it. Flickr members <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/73501944@N04/7353486330/">120volt</a> and Missy and Skylar (<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/walltowallcreeps/3574479285/in/album-72157618941579566/">walltowallcreeps</a>) captured the psycho St. Nick at The Magic Forest amusement (ha!) park in Lake George, New York.</p>
<h4>I&#8217;m Melting, I&#8217;m Melting!</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-109680" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/more-scary-santas-4a-644x483.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="483" /></p>
<p>Santa Claus delivers toys to girls and boys all over the world but he doesn&#8217;t stay too long in one place, especially hot, humid, tropical locales like Guatemala&#8230; and now you know why. Seems like Father Christmas has more in common with Frosty the Snowman than anyone thought. Flickr members <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/noflagnocountry/2132714538/">Neil and Sarah</a> snapped this wide-eyed, way overdressed and globally warmed-over Santa statue outside the Quetzaltenango international Christmas market.</p>

<p class="p1">Looming above an industrial parcel near an abandoned railway terminal in Beirut, seven balconies jut out into the air like the hulls of stacked skeletal ships. ‘Plot #1282’ by <a href="http://www.bernardkhoury.com/">DW5 Architects</a> is one of the first major architectural projects to be erected in a depressed area beside military barracks, fallow agricultural land and a 100-foot-wide highway. It will add 95 industrial lofts to a local that’s currently non-residential, and since other buildings will likely spring up all around it in the coming years, those balconies are strategically focused on preservable views of the city.</p>
<p class="p1"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108249" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ghost-ship-building-644x454.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="454" /></p>

<p class="p1">A maximum of two apartments will be located on each floor, with the floor slabs arranged around nine exposed cores. Each living space features minimal interior partitioning and lots of glass.</p>
<p class="p1"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108244" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ghost-ship-building-7-644x413.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="413" /></p>
<p class="p1"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108245" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ghost-ship-building-6-644x375.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="375" /></p>
<p class="p1">“In its present state, the site enjoys unobstructed panoramic views on all orientations through the totality of the perimeter of the plot,” the architects explain. “As a result of that, all proposed loft spaces enjoy full transparency of their facades with openings that span from floor to ceiling on all exterior elevations. In an unforeseeable future, as the surrounding plots get built, and with the gradual densification of the immediate environment, the full apertures of our facades will face unpredictable situations that our project’s morphology responds to by its continuous setback on the totality of the perimeter of the site and the gradual recess of the floor plates.”</p>
<p class="p1"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108242" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ghost-ship-building-9-644x376.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="376" /></p>

<p class="p1">It’s a pretty clever way to make the building adaptable to changing conditions around it, and you have to admit, it has resulted in a kinda spooky but visually dynamic silhouette.</p>

<h4>Monster House by Christine McConnell<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108220" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/monster-house-1-644x385.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="385" /></h4>

<p>Artist, photographer and baker <a href="https://www.instagram.com/christinehmcconnell/?hl=en">Christine McConnell</a>, who’s well known on Instagram for her creepy culinary creations, decided to transform her parents’ house for Halloween sing materials like foam core insulation boards, lighting and a fog machine. The result, ‘Monster House,’ is pretty incredible.</p>
<h4>Chiharu Shiota’s Tangled Webs<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108238" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/chiharu-shiota-1-644x430.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="430" /></h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108237" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/chiharu-shiota-2-644x483.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="483" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108236" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/chiharu-Shiota-3-644x865.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="865" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108234" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/chiharu-shiota-4-644x285.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="285" /></p>

<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://www.youtube.com/embed/GolS9Db3BMM?rel=0' frameborder='0' webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe></div></p>
<p>Japanese-born, Berlin-based installation artist<a href="http://www.chiharu-shiota.com/en/"> Chiharu Shiota </a>stretches her web-like creations throughout gallery interiors and other structures, almost like a spider herself. The threads or hoses are woven into abstract networks and attached to objects in the room, like pianos and boats. In 2013, she completed a performance piece entitled ‘Earth and Blood’ reflecting a traumatic personal history of cancer and loss.</p>
<h4>Horror Vacui by David Zink Yi</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108210" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/horror-vacui-644x374.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="374" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108209" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/horror-vacui-2-644x429.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108208" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/horror-vacui-3-644x429.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="429" /></p>
<p>A giant squid seems to have been unearthed fro the sea and left on a gallery floor to decompose in a puddle of putrid black liquid. This installation by <a href="https://midwayart.org/event/horror-vacui/">David Zink Yi</a>, entitled ‘Horror Vacui,’ is made of ceramic coated with copper and lead, the liquid consisting of ink and corn syrup.</p>
<h4>Giant Ant Infestations by Rafael Gómezbarros</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108213" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ants-gomezbarros-644x430.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="430" /></p>

<p>If you’re creeped out by insect swarms, you might not want to see any of <a href="https://www.gomezbarros.com/">Rafael Gómezbarros</a>’ incredible oversized ant installations in person. Each one measures 20 inches in length. In an interview with <a href="https://en.artmediaagency.com/85051/conquering-the-world-one-ant-at-a-time-interview-with-rafael-gomezbarros/">Art Media Agency</a>, Gómezbarros explained, “Through the portrayal of this creature which generates so many positive processes in nature, I aim to create a reflection upon the reality in which we live, which is repeated throughout world history: the displacement of humanity and the resulting immigration, especially in the current era of globalisation.  For me, immigration is often the result of the internal problems within a country. The immigrant can be represented by the ant, which in turn embodies duality: positive energy that leads it to construct and create elsewhere is juxtaposed by the notion of infestation.”</p>
<h4>Ghosts in a Czech Church by Jakub Hadrava<br />
<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-108217" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/ghost-church-644x325.jpg" alt="" width="644" height="325" /></h4>

<p>After part of the roof of St. George’s church in the Czech village of Lukova collapsed in the middle of a funeral service in 1968, locals believed the structure to be cursed, and left it to rot. Whether or not any real ghosts ever haunted its pews, it’s now filled with seriously spooky specters in the form of sculptural installations by local artist <a href="https://weburbanist.com/2015/09/11/ghost-church-creepy-statues-invade-abandoned-czech-chapel/">Jakub Hadrava.</a></p>

<p>Marvelous if also a bit morbid, these highly detailed murals show the complex workings inside giant-sized animals, revealing muscle, sinew, tendons, veins and bones in various different configurations.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-102215" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/animal-mural-644x444.jpg" alt="animal mural" width="644" height="444" /></p>
<p>Nychos is a street artist from Austria who creates spectacular, detailed artworks. He &#8220;grew up in a little village near Graz (Styria, South of Austria). He calls it the green hell. Born into an Austrian hunter’s family, he saw, at a very young age, things which normal people would consider as cruel and brutal.&#8221;</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-102212" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/exploded-whale-644x430.jpg" alt="exploded whale" width="644" height="430" /></p>
<p>The scale of works by Nychos plays to the level of detail, and each piece is crafted differently, almost like an experiment in sequential dissections by a scientist or medical student. His subjects span the animal kingdom as well, from kangaroos and rats to whales and alligators (as well as humans).</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-102209" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/cut-dog-644x483.jpg" alt="cut dog" width="644" height="483" /></p>
<p>Some of the murals are sliced cleanly while others operate like layered x-rays, revealing various depths at different points along their length.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-102211" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/anamial-644x352.jpg" alt="anamial" width="644" height="352" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-wide644 wp-image-102213" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/sliced-snake-644x378.jpg" alt="sliced snake" width="644" height="378" /></p>
<p>Still others feature intertwined animals at various stages of dissection or translucency, like the two snakes above, or act alike exploded axonometric drawings with pieces pulled out from the core.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-102218" src="https://weburbanist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/translucent.jpg" alt="translucent" width="631" height="494" /></p>
<p><div class='video-box'><iframe type='text/html' src='http://player.vimeo.com/video/147319366' allowfullscreen frameborder='0'></iframe></div></p>
<p>While Nychos also exhibits in galleries and makes smaller-scale prints, his large public pieces are particularly compelling (if somewhat disturbing).</p>
